Now Gustav has added a clever Spectral Processing plug-in effect named MagicBlur that costs $49.49 intro price. They describe it pretty well, so here's a quote from their website:
"MagicBlur is a multi-curve spectral blur and freeze effect with a built-in modulation system. Turn your samples into a synthesiser to create lush atmospheric sounds, endless worlds of overtone glissandi, crazy reversed and glitch-like sounds - it’s all there! Easily and quickly apply separate blur times per frequency, or ranges of frequencies. Mix them, modulate them, spread them, run wild, and create original spectral transformations from subtle reverberish washed out sounds to extreme effects on the brink of insanity."
I've found some creative uses on pads and special fx. Then I decided to try it out on some drums and percussion. I found that MagicBlur is a great companion to the Vital synthesizer for creating rich, evolving, metallic rhythms and aggressive bass lines.
** I would highly suggest using a limiter effect to protect against unexpected bursts of loud noise when experimenting. Seriously, I just about blew my ears off checking out some of the factory presets. Maybe you should also have an EQ on hand as some of the frequencies can be pretty extreme.**
MagicBlur is also effective at taking vocals and turning them into timbre-shifting pads and ambiences... I'm talking about serious ear candy. Psytrance and dance music enthusiasts should definitely take notice. It would also be quite useful to those more into cinematic styles of music.
GS DSP's entire Magic line-up feature an easy-to-use, yet powerful modulation system that is implemented across all three plug-ins. So if you know how to use one plug-in, you'll be able to learn the others with minimal effort. I appreciate that consistency. And with handy randomize functions, you can explore those "happy accidents".
The developer has been responsive and has been releasing updates, including M1 support for Apple Silicon computers. And the sound quality speaks for itself. I encourage you to check them out. The pricing is more than fair in my opinion, especially if you buy the bundle including MagicDelay (Spectral Delay), MagicPitch (Spectral Pitch & Frequency Transformer) and MagicBlur (Spectral Blur & Freeze) for $149.49 US dollars.
Each one of these plug-ins is like a special spice that seems to liven up just about any source material in unique and unexpected ways. Hopefully more people will support their development. I look forward to more updates and more plug-ins. Much respect to Gustav, well done sir!!
