There is a sale right now where all Plugin Alliance plugins are $19 and I would like to know which ones are worth it for sound design. What effects are creative and offer something that others don't?

Everything Unfiltered Audio I would say.
You can be creative in any right place on Earth, and not only in the wealthiest cities. Bring the world feelings from everywhere, and not only feelings of capitalistic or jail environment.

pretty much, more specifically Dent2, Fault, G8, Sandman Pro, Spec Ops.
The others are either lite versions or not that useful for sound design. I dont find Biome or Triad all that interesting as I have other ways of doing most of that but at $19 Triad is probably worth getting too

I was not so impressed with Silo. There are much better granulars around that will go on sale at reasonable prices and it is better to save for one of those in my opinion eg Wave Warper 2, FRMS . But for $19 if you have nothing else and budget is tight then maybe.
I think I saw them say that lofiasf is just a rebundling of the functionality of some of the others mentioned so it doesnt add much

DS Tantra 2 is a great one for getting creative.

Yeah, uses the same spectral algos as SpecOps apparently but more focussed on it's specific purpose, dedicated controls etc.fairlyclose wrote: Tue Sep 13, 2022 1:10 am I think I saw them say that lofiasf is just a rebundling of the functionality of some of the others mentioned so it doesnt add much
Which is good in my book as I find SpecOps fun to mess around with but only tweaking the presets, I find it doesn't give you that much control otherwise.
As for the original question, i the current sale I'd go for Triad (just a nice jack of all trades, bargain at $19 imo, has the deep reverb algo found in Tails) and Sandman Pro, my goto for any slightly out-there delay. Or Fault if that's included.

but, imo, these are on the lower end of the fidelity spectrum - something to bear in mind. to me they sound more 'soft synthy' than 'real'.
I think PA have several good saturation plug ins. Some of their amps are good. but I'm not generally a huge fan of any of their actual fx i.e. reverb, phase, delays.
I think PA is better for actual 'mixing' tools than for fx...

FX for creative sound design/shaping (more than mixing):fairlyclose wrote: Tue Sep 13, 2022 9:15 amwhich FX do you like - not PA, but from anyone?_leras wrote: Tue Sep 13, 2022 8:39 am I think PA is better for actual 'mixing' tools than for fx...
UAD - exceptional delays, reverbs and great filters
NI - all sorts and some reaktor fx
Valhalla - great reverbs and delays
Eventide - all sorts of good things there, vintage and new
D16 - some lovely sounding fx
Soundtoys - decapitator for tone, great phaser and some other fun fx lise crystallizer
Uhe - I also use Uhbik sometimes, I like that they are slightly not normal versions of typical fx
Cytomic - The Drop is also a great filter
oh, and Xfer for LFOTool

I have to agree - always seemed to me like that as well. Still a mighty tool for special tasks._leras wrote: Tue Sep 13, 2022 8:39 ambut, imo, these are on the lower end of the fidelity spectrum - something to bear in mind. to me they sound more 'soft synthy' than 'real'.
