Working with 192khz audio files in a 44,1khz DAW session

I have read that if you time stretch (therefore pitching down) an audio file, recorded at 192khz, which contains audio information in the ultrasonic, it can bring this information down into the audible range.

I recently started to work with 192khz samples designing sound for my own.
Do i lose the advantage of using high resolution audio files, if my DAW session is running at 44,1khz?
In my understanding a 192khz file gets downsampled if imported in a 44,1khz DAW session and therefore i get no benefits from it, when time stretching for example. This would mean i have to create sessions with higher sample rate if i am sound designing and lowering it down, if i work on a track. I hope i am not right, because my CPU can't really handle it. :ud:

Pure stretching should not do such a thing. It's supposed to change tempo but keep all the frequencies as is.

Pitching down is different. It probably depends on your DAW how it is handled. When pitching down a few semi-tones, it probably doesn't matter much. If you do this by the octave, then sure. Maybe better first 'prepare' the recording in a proper audio editor.

Stupid questions time! I have a few. Curious, let's say I am working in a DAW when the audio interface is set to 44.1khz, so the same in the DAW. But what if I export the track and choose higher sample rate, let's say for example 192khz? Will to become 192kHz or still be essentially 44.1 but only with different number? I hope explained what I meant.

Basically, in order to export audio at higher rates/bit depth, do I have to initially set my audio interface to those exact settings or does DAW work differently somehow and I can keep my computer at 44.1kHz at all times but then only export music at 48/96 or 192kHz?
