Getting a Mac Studio so looking for a good monitor to go with - the Studio display looks nice with great colour gamut but I suspect it is over priced for what you get. I want the retina screen though, HDR and good sound system but the refresh rate is poor at just 60hz so that could be improved on, and maybe also a bit larger?

What does Retina mean? 4k? 5k? Would either work?

Similar boat here, one day I'll be looking for an external monitor for my MBP which has a 5k screen.
I lost my heart in Cap de Creus

5k ideally but I guess 4 may do (not sure if the differences are visible at that level?) - colour quality/range and refresh rate are important though (like to paint digitally and game as well as music)

The only other 5K monitor is the LG Ultrafine 27". Not as expensive as the Studio Display and isn't as nicely constructed but the screen is really good and works well with the Mac Studio.

There was an interesting (if not a bit long) video on YT about 4K displays with Apple computers:

Interesting - anyway I caved and bought the Studio Display. Main reason apart from the Mac scaling benefits (and given that the LG Ultrafine was the previous Mac Studio Display essentially) is it's made to integrate so well with the Mac, plus does look great.

Nice. :)

Hoping that at some point Apple (or someone else) releases a 'less pro' (read: cheaper) 32" 6K.

I did the same thing Studio Display with the Mac Studio. I went from a 40” 4k monitor to it and don’t regret a thing. My eyes thank me everyday. I tried the best Dell 27” 4K for a hot minute and reboxed it immediately.
