I was running cubase sx2.2 and I bought the cubase sx3 update , i installed the sx3 update and was expecting sx3 to install over sx2 but it didn't instead i have 2 versions of cubase on my PC - sx2 and sx3. Is this correct ? should i have 2 versions or should the sx3 update have installed over sx2..
When i updated from 2.0 to 2.2 one installed over the other but not in the case of sx3 ,im just curious as it gets rather confusing have 2 versions on one PC.

To go a bit further whats really annoying me is if i open SX3 and start a new project then save it , When i click on the new project i would expect it to open in SX3 as thats where i started making it but it opens in SX2 instead..So i thought to remedy this i'll uninstall sx2 and now everythings gone tits up opening up old projects and vst's not connected etc...AHHH i wanna scream.(good job i invested in nortons ghost because doing a clean install of my hardrive used to take me the best part of 8 hours , you know trilogy , atmosphere ,NI's elec piano authorize this authorize that etc)

Yeah, same thing happened when I upgraded from SX1 to SX2. It installs as a separate programm. I tried uninstalling SX1, but all hell broke loose. So I just left it there taking up space. I guess if I upgrade to SX3 I will have 3
Cubase SX folders in my drive.
It makes sense that it installs separately, it is a different program after all, not an update (like SX2 to SX2.2). I just couldn't figure out why uninstalling SX1 causd all that trouble...
Just had a flash of inspiration. Maybe if you try renaming CubaseSX2.exe it won't open, and hopefully will find the right SX3.exe in the end.
Whatever solution you come up with, please post it here, I am sure lots of people are having similar problems.

very odd
i just tried opening an old sx2 song byclicking on it- which obviously didn't work because the program was no longer there.
So windows askd me what to open it with - i scrolled and choose sx3 - it all opened fine - it was admittedly just audio files so is it the plug-ins that cause the problem?

I also have 3 versions of Cubase on my PC: VST 5.1R, SX2.2 and now SX3. Are there any issues with just deleting the old files on the hard disk? I realise this will still leave all sorts of mess in the registry but I could reclaim quite a bit of disk space. I'm reluctant to remove using the uninstall programs due to the problems reported by other users.

By default, the installer removes "shared" components too - like DLL files and ASIO drivers (!). You have to be careful when running the uninstaller to make sure YOU DO NOT REMOVE ANY SHARED COMPONENTS.
I used to have 5.1, SX1, and SX2.2 installed. I CAREFULLY removed 5.1, making sure not to remove any shared components, and nothing has broken. and I'm about 150Mb richer.
Don't just delete the files - you'll be left with all kinds of registry crap. uninstalling works - you just have to try to not be dumb about it. (sorry cimoc!)
Forever,
Kim.
