Initial plugin startup seems quicker. Layout is different, subjective to whether it's better or not.
Like 6, seems to have problems finding libraries. Maybe finicky in that it wants to redownload everything even after you've given them a path under 'locate'. Added four libraries, two showed up, it has problems finding the presets in one (not user).
The new Access no longer puts a tmp file from which I can extract the URL download link so I can download once and install as needed.
Maybe premature, but they've seemed to have found a way to make it a whole new PITA. But I haven't been fan to their perfidy for awhile.

Kontakt 7 is still incomplete.
While the Browser is a big step forward, the instrument display is still puny with barely readable tiny text - same as it ever was.
I feel slightly cheated as the pre-release publicity avoided saying "GUI NO CHANGE" by focussing on the new Browser's merits or the pretty graphics that don't actually do anything.
Clever marketing sleight of hand imo. Misdirection.
Early this year I even got a special prescription set of glasses just for reading Kontakt screens while sitting comfortably at a large display monitor.
But the text remains so tiny I still have to hunch up to read, even with new specs
Top marks for new instruments, new style and other improvements
But I'd suggest NI will give us the same old tiny text for the next 10 years as they don't have a clue how to implement text changes that will work backwards across hundreds of indie sample vendor apps.
Tiny text is K7's elephant in the room

Is the new library, particularly the orchestral and acoustic stuff a big step up from the old Factory library?

My understanding is that there’s really not much new in K7 for users, but apparently the developer experience is much better now. So we may see some cool updates to existing Kontakt-based products, and cool new products.

Look at the bright side: eventually a whole new wave of VIs and libraries will come out which mandate using this instead of v6.x. yayyyyyyyyJafo wrote: Wed Oct 12, 2022 3:02 am None whatsoever. Now I have TWO versions of Kontakt always telling me they're updated. Yay.

For the first time I needed to use multi outs in Kontakt and holy sh!tsnacks, what a mess. I can’t believe it’s so clumsily implemented. If a guy like me, who’s been using software instruments since the early 00s has to watch a tutorial video because the manual wasn’t clear at all, you have failed.

I sold my Kontakt 6 license earlier this year and didn't look back. I am using a combination of Presence (Studio One) and Sforzando. I mostly arrange scratch tracks which will be rerecorded with real instruments. This approach is simpler and good enough for me. I'd probably be more tied to Kontakt if I needed sampled instruments that have a higher level of realism.

I thought K5 to K6 was a pathetic update. There is literally nothing useful here. If anything, the new browser makes it more convoluted trying to bounce back and forth between the library view and the instrument view. I have a few hundred custom/quick libraries. I'm not spending a few weeks trying to get a folder icon into the browser view 1 f'n library at a time. Then spend another couple of weeks downloading pngs of each of those libraries so I can have a good icon. So, I just switched it back to the old left/right view and am adding back the quick libraries. Total waste of $100. Oh wait I get a new reverb I don't want/need and some new low rent instruments in the library... save your money.

I've been bitching about that for years and years and always get the same folks saying "it's fine here". But it truly is the worst possible solution to the problem.zerocrossing wrote: Tue Oct 18, 2022 2:32 am For the first time I needed to use multi outs in Kontakt and holy sh!tsnacks, what a mess.
