with music websites, how would you classify the difference between a "portal" and a "community?" would be your descriptions for each?

a portal is simply a site with links to tons of other usefull sites this usually has no forum nore any real content other then the links. a community on the other hand contains a forum or chat room (or both) and encourages artists to chat and make aquintences
hope this helps

yes, it does. thanks... i'm trying to organize my boatload of bookmarks.
if there's no opportunity for communication between users, i'll label those as "portals."

what would you call an "in-betwen" site? no forum, IS informational, AND has links?
i suppose it's not horribly important. i'm more interested in sites that allow promotion of some sort for myself. i'm just curious if places that allow link submissions would be interested in these "informational" sites or not. plus there's also what i would call "fan" sites, for people who like certain types of music with forums but provide no real use to an "artist."
for now i've just added a seperator between "community" sites, "informational" sites, "fan" sites, and "portals" to help keep them organized.
Here's an example:
Drum & Bass -
Community Sites:
Midwest Drum & Bass
drumnbass.be
North West Drum & Bass UK
Informational Sites:
dnbhq
drumandbass.ch
Portals:
Boogo! Links
D&B Topsites
