Apparently this is still needing Rosetta 2? So I need to install Padshop 2 and Halion 6 - does this mean they won't work unless I run all DAWS hosting them in Rosetta mode too?

Frankly I hate the idea of installing anything like a driver that requires Rosetta

It’s also very unclear if I can use them without the dongle now on AS

Neither is native and still require the dongle, regardless of host.
I suspect this will change for (at least) HALion sometime in the future because it is a “flagship” Steinberg product. My guess: paid upgrade for a new native version. Not so sure about Padshop.

I’ve been running both (with the dongle) on Cubase 12 under Rosetta and there doesn’t seem to be any noticeable performance hit under Rosetta. They’ve been working fine so far.

OK thanks - Halion and Padshop are the only things using the dongle now - had hoped they had been transferred to the new system by now

Hmmm Padshop isn't? I know Halion will be soon, but I thought Padshop (which is included in Cubendo no?) was already.

Says Padshop supports it since March this year.

It appears to be only if you have the Cubendo version but not the separate plugin

I've not got that far yet - I don't want to go through the rigmarole of trying to install it if it's not going to work so I'm checking that out first. Steinberg site isn't very clear

Like I have Backbone as separate product and did the 'upgrade' (it is free) from the elicenser to the new system.

Thanks all I see is one for Wavelab 11

Which I just redeemed incidentally and it asked to open ELCC which I haven't installed because it's not AS native. I thought the whole point of this Steinberg licensing was to no longer need the elicenser system? Steinberg are not communicating very well how all this works

It is indeed...but if you have a previous version you have to use the elicenser to transfer it to the new licensing system.

If you had bought it new for the first time, indeed you wouldn't have needed Elcc.
I believe once you have done that transfer it no longer needs the elcc for that specific software.

e-Licenser is not like iLok. There is no "always loaded" system driver for it. Nothing about e-Licenser requires either host or plugin to be native in order to work. The dongle is directly accessed by apps and plugins via the OS's generic USB support. Steinberg's native plugins rely on Steinberg Activation Manager (which is also native) to do this communication.

None of the Steinberg VSTs have been migrated to the new licensing system. They all still require the dongle (except for Halion Sonic SE of course).

Do you know if the same is true for Reason activation? I notice the Wibu site says Codemeter is native from 7.20 but it looks like Reason is using an older version.

1) that list does have a few more than Hailon Sonic SE
2) I know with 100% certainty Backbone has.
