Now that the Receptors are mostly below $500, I'm REALLY itching to get one. However, I don't want to invest in a $400 doorstop. The old manual that I downloaded from the MR site says you can't upgrade the RAM but to 2Gig. But the models on Reverb, and eBay come with 8Gig. Can I upgrade that to 16Gig? Are they still Linux-based, and do they not support auto-upgrades just like any other PC? Pls don't laugh if I'm asking "silly" questions. I'm just trying to find out if it's really obsolete. I was actually fantasizing about connecting it via Cat5 to a PreSonus StudioLive 16R that comes with the full-blown onboard mixer. Is that possible?

If I'm just smoking rope, is there any other animal out there like this other than SeeLake AudioStation?

The Receptors were really nice machines at the time that they were being supported. Nowadays, you can get nearly as good (if not better) through a modern/up-to-date laptop. You may want to look into that as a possibility over a hardware device that is no longer produced and supported. ...my opinion.

I really need something to relieve the serious taxation on my current PC that my VST's put on it. I saw the Seelake AudioStation, but it doesn't look like it has any support. Plus, I'd much rather buy my mixer as something like the StudioLive 16R that I could run Sphere as my DAW.

Compatibility:

Server: macOS 10.7+, Windows 7+
Plugin: macOS 10.7+, Windows 7+, Linux
AudioGridder is 64bit only
The server supports AudioUnit (macOS only) and VST2/VST3 plugins
The plugin is available as VST2/VST3, AAX and AudioUnit (macOS only)

I suppose the minimum requirement would be Windows 7+ and a network connection. The better/more hardware you have, the more you can run.

Muse was just a computer with a specilized OS. Don't all computers become doorstops (or landfill) eventually?

Surprised they didn't just sell the OS.

I still have my Receptor Pro. Hardly ever use it. Been years since I've used it actually! It was a good thing at the time. It's the worse idea ever nowadays. Same with keyboards/synth workstation types that you could run or install sample libraries. I believe all of them went bankrupt.

RUN AWAY!! There are plenty of used laptops and desktops for cheap that can handle more load, are compatible with more plugins and are far easier to use.

Are you saying run away from the Receptor? I'm pretty sold on the AudioTrigger. I'm just wondering how much HP I need under the hood for the h'ware server.

The AudioGridder server needs enough power to run the VSTs you try to offload, at least. Plus some overhead. How much extra? Unknown. Maybe someone has done some tests...

But since it's free, you can try for yourself whether it works for you.

NB: the name AudioGridder refers to a grid, not a trigger.

The time you would invest, likely with a poor result, is worth vastly more than $400.

The itching is a divine warning signal, to slow down, back off, and rethink your needs
and capabilities. Simple inexpensive solutions with incredible potential are easily discovered. But you'll speed past many of them, in a quest for the greener grass across the fence. An i7 based pc and three SSD's, running windows and linux, viewed on a pair large clear monitors, will make amazing things possible, without going in huge debt.

Appreciado Glokraw. I've decided on going with AudioGridder, and I've spotted a SCHWEET little mini-desktop with all the connectivity I need, and more than enough HP under the hood for about $250. One thing though about AG. I haven't seen any good videos on how to install the VST's so AG can see them; especially ones that I've already paid for. Maybe I just missed that one.
