In the parameter manual, about almost halfway in, there is a mention of a ribbon controller, and yet, I don’t see a physical ribbon controller. Why would there be a mention of a ribbon controller in the parameter manual?

There is a ribbon controller on the Montage, just below the bend and mod wheels. Because performances between the Montage and MODX must be fully compatible, the MODX has a parameter for a ribbon controller, even though the physical keyboard lacks one. The MODX line also has parameters for aftertouch, which it also lacks.

Kind of how the Korg Nautilus and Roland Fantom-0 keyboards support aftertouch, even though they don't have them to maintain sound design compatibility with the Kronos and Fantom, respectively...so it's far from just a Yamaha issue. I don't have a Nautilus handy, but it too lacks a ribbon controller but might still have the Kronos-compatible parameter ribbon controller. I'd love to check for you, but I'm pretty sure I'll forget to look this up next time.

My point is, that's not uncommon.
