Hi and gluten tag everyone (maybe someone doing bread will understand that one)
Have a bunch of issue with Logic Mixer
- Everyone once in a while, some new random channel get created for no apparent reason with a name referring back to the virtual instrument behind the metronome
- Cannot change order of Channel. A big issue, as a project grow bigger and I add and remove track, and especially when I add empty track to be used in a multi channel VI (like kontakt), suddenly, the Mixer have the track in a very very weird order (where it don't match anymore the order of my track in the main screen).
Had another issue but I forgot about it, will reply when I will remember the other issue I had with the mixer.

Weird, I haven't seen that happen in years now. Granted I stopped using Logic Pro last year and moved back to Cubase but I remember at various points throughout the 7/8/9/10 years, where Klopfgeist would randomly show up in the mixer as a channel. Didn't happen on every project, but a few here and there did have it show up. Can't remember if I ever figured why it happens or how to hide it again.. Vaguely recall it was because of something in the metronome's settings but you know old age and memory and all that..

And like I said, big issue is no way to reorder the channel in the mixer or know easily which mixer is plugged / associated with what...
The mixer is my biggest issue with Logic, all my issue mostly come from the mixer.

Simply set mixer view to Tracks.
Plus read the manual more often than not.

Look in my attached picture...
I have set the mixer to view track, but yet my track #1 is now channel #2 in the mixer... they don't track each other..
And channel 1 is track 2

Also, if I reorder track, they keep their old track/channel number. For example, I have moved pigment to be first channel, but the Channel is stuck forever to Inst 2 even if its now the first instrument

Hi,
it seems that the "Channel:InstX" number just relates to the moment the tracks were added and cannot be changed afterwards.
I never noticed that before. May I ask why is the relevant to you?
The other problem where the mixer and arrange view are not in sync, I can't duplicate. Whenever I choose a channel in either mixer or arrange page, it always is the same channel on both. The order is also in sync with the mixer when re-ordering tracks in arrange page.

In Logic 5, the mixer was already inelegant. Glad to see the tradition continues!
Back when I started with Logic 5 Silver (remember SilverVerb?
), it was such a pain, I just made a template with 16 MIDI and 16 audio tracks and saved it as the default template. The mixer just sort of took care of itself from there. I never worried about ordering my tracks as I did that just by arranging my song (all audio clips at this point to save G4 CPU) in the order I wanted.
This is a matter where you'll have to block out an hour of time and read the manual. Even after I read the manual, it was bryond me. Logic and the Environment was always a clunky affair--great in theiry, but poor in practice.

I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

Brass in the Track List is an AUX track you created, functions as an audio output 3-4 from your main Instrument Strings in the Mixer. Ok, that can be confusing.AsgardBS wrote: Sun Nov 06, 2022 4:39 pm Look in my attached picture...

Inst 2 doesn't equal to track number in the Track List. Because Inst 2 means it's the 2nd Instrument Object in Logic's environment. Again: That can be confusing.

Question: Do you like to use NI Komplete Kontrol?

If you want to replicate, you need to use Aux channel as output to multi output VST (like kontakt can be more than just stereo output, it can have multiple stereo output).yoreP wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 5:04 pm Hi,

When you start using more complex template with multi output instrument, and start moving track around, its where everything get messed up.
If just using regular instrument track and audio track, and not using aux track in the arrange view, thing don't get messed up.
And the fact that the order in which we create channel / track matter, that once a track get created it get perma assigned a number we can't change anymore, that bother me.

I know that "inst 2" equal to the underhood reference to when it was created, but its really anoying they made it that way. They should allow reorganizing it to keep it clean, and not be stuck with old reference number... Should be able to have that number in sync with the actual track #... my OCD kick in hard.Etienne1973 wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 5:21 pmBrass in the Track List is an AUX track you created, functions as an audio output 3-4 from your main Instrument Strings in the Mixer. About NI komplete kontrol... got the keyboard, its a nice keyboard, however to use most functionality I need to go trough NI komplete kontrol software, and use that as a host for other plugin... kinda sad... They should have made it so NKS compatible instrument could directly be used without having to go trough komplete kontrol...

It's a reference to the audio object used, not the track number. Those are very different concepts in Logic. If you want to understand why, in Logic you can have eg fifteen different tracks, all with the same audio object assigned to them. Every track has an environment object assigned to it which tells Logic what type of track it is (MIDI or audio) and where to route the track contents.AsgardBS wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 5:33 pm I know that "inst 2" equal to the underhood reference to when it was created, but its really anoying they made it that way. So no, Logic shouldn't change the name or reference of the environment object that's been assigned to a given track when you change the order of tracks in the arrange page.
