Wonder what the reason could be for this deep discount?

I want to get it but worried I'll be stung with a high upgrade fee or discontinuation in the near future :?
Signatures are so early 2000s.

Steer clear, you'll thank me later. It's not worth 50 pence in its current state.

Post

It’s not worth it, it’s glitchy, buggy and just an awful user experience.

You'd have to pry BFD3+the Evil Joe library from my cold, dead hands. BFD3's cymbal swell modeling is great compared to whatever Toontrack tries to do, and they've got Tom Resonance modeling. Those small things make a difference IMO.

The interface isn't as slick looking as Toontrack and other options, people are cranky about InMusic and the licensing (understandable), M1 support has been in the works for too long, but BFD3 still "just works" for me.

I have my eye on this deal, but currently know nothing about what happened after Fxpansion sold it off.
Do you think that this discount indicates that there's a paid upgrade around the corner?

If I got an M1 upgrade included in this price it would be very cool.

Maybe Drew (KVR user: Amberience), the BFD product manager, will see the thread and can comment. I'm in no position to.

a $50 price point is scary for those that have invested their left leg and right lung in the product. but to be honest fxpansion took my money and ran but BFDrums have not made a penny off me so if this is true then i suspect the shaft is coming.

maybe that is why the M1/VST3 update has not been forthcoming. they may use it as a selling point in the near future

Ask yourself:

Are you happy with a 90-day online reauthorisation subsciption-style system even though you've bought a perpetual licence?

Are you happy for the licence manager to tell you that you can't use your software until you have reauthorised?

Are you happy to try and reauthorise you already paid-for software only for it to be as buggy as hell and not actually let you reauthorise your licences, thus not allowing you to use your software?

If you're OK with all that, plus that fact that it's owned by the execrable inMusic brand, then knock yer socks off!

Post

The sounds are good but the UI sucks, it's buggy, the copy protection is hot garbage, and I don't trust inMusic as far as I can throw them. I sold my copy last year and no regrets.

The reauthorizing every 90 days thing is annoying but I haven't had a problem with it so far, and even when it was an FXPansion/Roli product, it was always Challenge and Response. Had BFD3 not been taken over by InMusic, I wouldn't have any functioning BFD3 at all. BFD3 would've been killed off by Roli, activations shut down, and then I got a new PC and wouldn't have been able to authorize at all.

So, despite the inconvenience of reauthorizing regularly, at least it's alive!

I and many others have had problems. C/R I had to do exactly one time when I installed it, as an actual perpetual licence should be.

BFD's licence manager often says the server is offline when trying to reauthorise. Never sure if the server is down, or if the licence manager is just being buggy. Neither inspires confidence.
To be honest, if BFD had been left to die at least we could have just moved on, rather than this false hope many were given.

I have to say I’ve had no troubles with BFD 3 after the initial change over to inmusic ownership. There are some hassles with the 90 days thing, but the authorizing has been completely glitch free for me. I find BFD 3 is still the best sounding drum solution for me. As long as it continues to work as is then I have no problems continuing to use it as my main drum instrument for live sounding drums. I don’t need any new features myself, although Drew has said that there’d be a BFD 4 coming. It’d be great for the Mac users to get M1 support, hopefully it comes soon for you, I’m on windows and use it trouble free. I hope the sale is pointing to a new version, just to kill some of the bad talk about it since the sale to inmusic. It would be great if they gave more updates as to current status and progress.

BFD doesn’t work properly here (Apple M1 Mac) unless I run it in Rosetta mode (ie I have to run live or logic completely in Rosetta)… If you don’t and run native, it kind of looks like it works but never authorizes properly, or sees any presets etc.

But in Rosetta mode it works fine, sounds great, and I have been able to get a couple expansions this year for really cheap.

Works ok for me but definitely YMMV.

The Rosetta thing is annoying and maybe a dealbreaker for some though.
