I am pretty sure the look of a synth also influences buying decisions.
Eyes have become more important especially in music production, some people like to analyze and see things in their daw,
but also when you buy clothes or a car or whatever, the eyes influence your decisions.
So let's share your fav and your less fav softsynth gui. Maybe also which gui would you like to be improved?
My less fav is a gui of a synth I would maybe use more often with a gui my eyes would like to be faced with.

Best gui
Avenger default gui - love at first sight

Worst gui
Arturia Analog Lab
Synth has a choice of different emus and some nice presets, but still too many that would never be used, you can't even say the look is ugly, but I just don't like it. Whenever I load and see Analog Lab it kinda transmits an uninspiring vibe.
At first I always think I am faced with several ads, synth has the character of advertising, that's a way to describe it.
It's like when you are hungry and get a dish with lots of onions, but you don't like onions at all

There's a thread called "I Can't Use Ugly Plugins" where you can see what the community has already fingered.

If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bullshit.

Well, thread is not about ugly plugins only, focus is rather on beautiful plugins.
I do not have to add anything to my fav gui, you can't make a better gui imo,
if perfection had a name, the name would be Avenger.
And I am refering to the gui!
Compared to Avenger's gui, Diva complies with its name and looks like an old lady, Omnisphere like a immature teen and Pigments pretends to be a Mercedes, but with the engine of Lada only, whereas Hive 2 is dressed suitably, it sounds the way it looks - cold.

And I see, negative things very often are a
more attractive topic.

Nope. I mean ffs. For. Fuks. Sake. You could just not post a stupid thread, but hey, it seems to be the way round these parts. :dog:

I love GUIs such as Avenger, Rapid, Nexus, Hive2, Spire... Simple to use, nice to look at, and the sound fits my needs.

And I find difficult to use GUIs that offer no consistency from one patch to another, such as Zebra2, Vaz, or generally anything modular-like. Most of the time they remind me of pile of Legos. To me they look somewhat childish-looking and unprofessional with their crazy colours popping all around. I dislike those GUIs and make me want to try something else instead. Just my feeling. I’m still using those synths though, UI is not everything, I want people to hear my sound.

There is another category : the ones that I have to cope with. For example, MPowerSynth is mindblowing features-wise, but I spend more time finding back the button I’ve already used a thousand times than adjusting parameters. There’s no words for this. This is my enigma-GUI-synth.

IMO, best/worst depends on the foundation on which you start working with tools. I personally prefer interfaces close to possibly existing so I ignore complicated interfaces.
+ is to have the option to modify the UI for your taste (or at least change the color scheme).

For today, the golden mean is Hive. I also loved Spire.

But... love fades and tastes change :ud:

Haha I know what ffs normally means :)
The only stupid thing is obviously your post with the parlance of a clochard.

I love "Its too subjective to each personal taste" vst by "i dont care". I find an ugly vst called "another stupid thread" by "people who have too much free time" :-)

Post

i dunno, i find it hard to believe that a single plugin could simultaneously have the best AND worst GUI... :o

Haha ridiculous.
Someone who posts to a thread he considers stupid definetely seems to have too much free time. What an exhibition of... LOL

A good gui is as important as good sound of a synth. "You eat with your eyes first!"
A hard and impossible task to please everyone, though

Getting back to the topic if we may...

I may have mentioned it on the other thread but offhand Piano One has one of the best I've ever seen. Too bad the sound isn't all that great. Vital and Hive also come to mind.

Worst, Synth1 is still king. I know it's old, but it looks far older even than it is. Like it was bundled with a new Commodore 64 PC. And I have a soft spot for Superwave's very capable yet extremely inexpensive retro synths, but those UIs are enough to scare off anybody (that said I still have some).

With a good poop redesign, I think it could be possible though. Let’s simply find a nice-looking synth and a reskinner who enjoys having fun, such as The Intrancer.
