HI there,

Does anyone know a programm, to tap in a tempo and generate a MIDI clock from?

i had an ocasionally live jam on friday with some "real" musicians :) and audiomulch and what I really missed was a quick tap tempo function. I know that from my SP-808 Sampler and found it very handy.
I'm sure that such a thing must exist, because it is such a common problem.

I already posted this in the audiomulch forum, but they sugested/knew only hardware solutions (redsound micro synch or the 341-tap pedal from www.ploytech.com ) or Circular Logic InTime, which is to expensive for me as a hobby musician and also to complex.

I don't need any program, which reacts on audio to track the tempo (which is always faulty and demands a additional monitor path, too).
I for myself would be happy, if i can tap the tempo with the mouse or a key (As every groovebox and comparable hardware gear does) and get a synch from it, which i can use from other appz.

there is Tap Tempo from Analog-X, if this prog could generate a MID clock signal, it would be enough.

Thank you

Seems that nobody cares for that:(
But I say you, this will gain importance in the future: There will be a time, when nobody wants to see pure electronic musicians on stage any more. Laptops are so unsexy! And then it would be necessary to synch your stuff to the real musicians. :uhuhuh:

Hi Al,

Its not that we don't care, but I (and everybody else) can't think of a program that does exactly what you're asking.

But back on the subject of synching real musicians & electronics: in most practical cases it's the sequencer that dictates the tempo and the real musicians that follow. Because the real musicians are way more flexible than the sturdy machines.

I think you really got a point, why shouldn't it be the other way around... Most host sequencers allow you to type in a BPM, but I don't know of any that has a fast tap-tempo feature.

Anybody ??

Ableton Live does have such a function, as does Emagic Logic.

As you seem to be on PC (Audiomulch), I'd recommend you download the demo version of Ableton Live and use it for tapping the tempo. You can either define a computer-keyboard key or any MIDI contoller to do so.
Live can output MIDI clock, and the demo version is only restricted in that it can not save - which is no shortcomming for your task.

Btw., the SP-808 can output MIDI clock as well... It's somewhere in the Song Settings menu, as far as I remember.
?????????????

well, that could be a solution (live demo version or using sp808).

@Cookie. Well i think, the other way around is indeed the more natural one. And I know drummers, which are good ones but totally unable to synch to a computer generated beat (or click). Its hell in studio, I tell ya.
And its also not easy for musician to synch to a computer sound, which is not a "drum loop", i want to play some arp stuff or sych deley times fast.

...but now i cannot ride with my bike to the gig any more :-(

SP808 sends MIDI Clock, indeed. But, it was hairy to use: The problem is, it works only with SP808EX(ed :), because it works only in "Effect Device " mode without a zip in and with a footswitch attached.

With a ZIP in, it loads a song and uses always the song tempo, no way to change that tempo via tapping.

Without a ZIP in, it adjusts the tempo via tapping, but to make the Slave-Program react on the Clock, you have to send also a MIDI start/stop command, thats why you need the footswitch, because the start/stop buttons on the sampler are disabled with no ZIP in. Silly.

But then, start and stop the PC playing with the footstep and Tap the tempo, works fine.
Even better: The D-Beam in Pitch Mode also affects MIDI clock! Thats cool, so you can control the speed of your audio app by moving your Hand :hihi: 8) :singer:

The new version of Magix has that.

Magix Audio Studio 2005. Most underrated piece of audio software, next to Fruityloops.

Really ??? :o In the audio studio part of the program is definitely nothing like this!
(I know that because I'm an insider 8))
Is it in the MIDI studio (emagic part) of the program?
