Hi everyone
wanted to share with you the current albums (released in the last few years) that I think are really worthy of buying. This thread is intended to be different than the "what are you listening to now" thread because I'm hoping for some people to summarize their favorites of the last few years. Please post at least an amazon link where we can preview the albums on your list.
Here's my short list:
1. RJD2 - Since we last spoke
http://sandbox.pair.com/abstract/djx84.html
2. Ulrich Schnauss - A strangely isolated place.
http://www.boomkat.com/artist.cfm?artis ... 20SCHNAUSS
3. Savath and Savalas - Apropa't
http://www.warprecords.com/bleep/
search "savath"
4. Madvillian - Madvilliany
http://sandbox.pair.com/abstract/sth2065.html

The Top Shit I would recommend you would have a hard time finding demo tracks for, but for some GOOD hard-core I recommend both LP & EP's from 'Kiss it Goodbye', & for one of the last massive grindcore bands check out 'His Hero is gone'..
Way off that path the last 2 releases I really enjoyed in the last couple of years were:
A Perfect Cirlce's last LP
Sneakerpimp's Bloodsport
Massive Attack's 100th Window
(I'd post links but I gotta scram)

Futureperfect by VNV Nation
a vast chunk of this was done in reaktor, and you can see some of the writing process on their recent dvd. looks like a good chunk of the leads were written with Junatik but with an extra oscillator added to it.

cheesy response but true...they all take me somewhere. Sometimes it can be fun to analyze songs, production techniques etc etc but these albums encapsulate me in their world and show me something new.xoxos wrote:oi, can you have a go at explaining what it is about each that makes them 'required listening' for contemporary musicians?
