Vocoder sounds the best bet to me. Granulizers are just fuckituperisers imo...

For smearing sounds I use

- Sonic Charge's Echobode's Smear knob
- FFT (GRM stuff; Evolution, Grinder.. - use big windows)
- Phonolyth's Velvet Machine (Sonic texture generator / blur / non‑linear reverb) - this is a hidden gem

I do that with two plugins
1st:

2nd:
FabFilter timeless3, set to 1/4 or something (and predelay the audio for 1/4) and use "diffuse" parameter.
