Just a note to warn you that I recently bought a guitar from DV247 that when it arrived (6 days!) I had ‘duty’ to pay and I was asked to pay it by credit card over the phone or it would not be delivered. I paid and let DV247 know immediately, they have now basically said they cant refund unless they get proof from UPS (and its been over 3 weeks now)
Be aware if you order from DV247 are shipping from the EU that this can happen…I will stick to ‘real’ UK companies in future, lesson learned!

I was thinking of buying a guitar from a UK dealer and thought better of it for the same reasons. I wonder how the big boys deal with this? Thomann, etc.? Stoopid poly-tice-ians.

DV247 are not a UK shop- they are a 'shopfront' for musicstore.com in Germany.
There are some really good UK Guitar shops- I normally buy from Peach https://www.peachguitars.com/ but in this case I wanted a little Steinberger headless travel guitar and DV247 were the only ones that seemed to have them in stock.
I have used Thomann quite a bit, never had an issue but I do worry a bit about how returns may be handled and for that reason (and wanting things next day
) have switched mainly to UK shops even if it costs a little more...We have some great ones- Andersons, GAK, Gear4Music, Juno, Elevator Sound for modular etc...so no real reason to go out of the UK.

When I was back in UK last summer I bought a bass from Thomanm no issue. Would buy from them again. Wanted a cheap Harley Benton so every reason to by from them.
They also shipped some gear to Asia for me, no hassles. Pretty customer friendly IMO. A++
(Maybe I just got lucky?)

No, Thomann is usually reliable. I know DV247 is a front for Musicstore.de.
I expect Brexit has caused a lot of trade hassles. (understatement, I know).
I looked at an English guitar seller, Richards Guitars in Stratford-upon-Avon. I couldn't find anything on what hoops I'd have to jump for a guitar to be shipped to Germany, so I balked.

Just in case anyone is interested, DV247 never refunded me the extra tax/delivery I was charged, I won’t order from them again and I recommend avoiding them if you are in the UK…

It's a shame but going waaay back they were one of the best, great deals, end of line clearances etc. Ultimately not the same shop anymore, storefront as you say.
I've only purchased a couple of midi controllers in the last few years but both times went with Juno, cheapest, free delivery, both items turned up the next day. Not so great for guitars though.

Funnily enough I always use Juno for Tech (ask for a better price is a great feature and you always get one, no price match required!). I use Peach and Andersons for Guitars, I like and trust both of them and never had an issue with either....great service, easy returns, helpful staff...you get what you pay for, I thought I was saving £20, waited almost 2 weeks (rather than next day) and then got stung for tax so lost money...lesson learned!GaryG wrote: Wed Apr 05, 2023 9:58 am It's a shame but going waaay back they were one of the best, great deals, end of line clearances etc. Ultimately not the same shop anymore, storefront as you say.
