The drums in the intro to this track seems to be a Floor Tom and a snare. Is there layering and reverb going on there also?

Try a gated reverb or a Nonlin reverb on kick and snare for that "explodey drum sound". This sounds like a more lofi example of that classic 80s drum sound.

Common way to do gated reverb is set up a send track with reverb followed by a gate. The gate should be set to where it kills the reverb tail abruptly.dave davies wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 9:56 pmI have Fruity Lops DAW, how do you mean 'gated reverb'?Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Thu Mar 02, 2023 9:54 pm Try a gated reverb or a Nonlin reverb on kick and snare for that "explodey drum sound". Easy peasy way to do it in FL is to use Fruity Convolver and cut off the tails of the reverbs on the impulse files to suit, e.g delete the highlighted bit;

According to that YouTube piece, the dry tracks (vocals and bass) were centred but the wet tracks (drums and guitar) were panned. However she also said that the vocals were close -miked and "buried in reverb". Is that a contradiction?
Besides wet or dry, what's the difference, it's all in the mix and is reverbed up just the same anyway in the end?

Close mic the vocals, but bury in artificial reverb. No contradiction at all there. Happens all the time in pop music production (using the broad definition of "pop" music).dave davies wrote: Fri Mar 03, 2023 12:37 pm However she also said that the vocals were close -miked and "buried in reverb". The new reverb plug-in from Wave Alchemy named Glow does gated reverb amazingly-well on drums and vocals. The advertising throws the phrase "iconic sound" around quite a bit, but after some use on my own tracks, they have earned my money and respect. Pure nostalgia and two thumbs up!! Check it out at https://www.wavealchemy.co.uk/product/glow/
