I'm running HS and was wondering, when I import a midi drum track, how do I then sort/split the bass drum to track 1, snare to track 2, CHH to track 3, etc. I want to assign individual drum sounds, and record a separate wave for each drum, to have more control over the overall mix. I was trying to find info in the help file, but wasn't too fortunate.
Is there a way, in the piano roll view, to select just a note, and have the events for that note cut/pasted or copied to a new track?
I was looking at the event filter, but that doesn't seem to do what I need it to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and the KVR forums kick ass!

This should work in about all hosts, although it is a pain:
1. Copy the whole drumtrack to track 2. Mute the original track to keep it as a kinda backup.
2. Copy track 2 to track 3.
3. Delete in track 2 all notes higher than the lowest. Use the mouse to select a rectangular area in the pianoroll to select all you want to delete.
4. Delete in track 3 all of the lowest notes, those that now sit in track 2.
Repeat steps 2-4 (copy track, delete all but lowest, delete lowest only) until you got 'em all separated.
NB: if anybody knows a utility that can do this process to channel 10 of a standard MIDI file (or is willing to write one) I'm interested!

I suppose that HS means Cakewalk Homestudio. If it is Homestudio 2 you could use a drummap. It would be much easier to work with drumparts, you can mute and solo individual instruments instead of spliting them accros multiple channels.

Homestudio? I thought HS was adio only...or is that guitar racks...or whatever.
I use SOnar, so I just hope the same functionallity will work for you.
METHOD 1:
Open the source track in piano roll. Go to the very first note and click on the drum map left. on the line that you want to copy. Cick copy. Go to the destination track and click paste. Make sure your now-time ruler stay where it is. This method is a nightmare to get the offset timing right as it paste the first note it copied at the ow time marker.
METHOD 2:
Get the CAL script from the CW site called "split notes to tracks". Put it in your sample contents folder and choose CAL from the menu. It works like a charm.
METHOD 3:
Use drum maps as described above.
METHOD 4:
Use a multi out synth like VSC, DR008 or VSampler etc.

Home Studio is essentially Sonar two versions ago, minus a few features (which are extraneous for many of us).
Home Studio 2002 (the one I use) won't let you use CAL.
