Embedded Youtube videos not showing

Any problems with the site? How can we improve KVR?

Maybe this is a Safari thing but I'm not able to see Youtube videos anymore - I just get a white rectangle and it's not even possible to click to the underlying link

Post

In my experience, Safari has a lot of problems with embedding. Even Google Drive links don't work (which should actually show a preview/player).

I get this on iOS on Safari and Chrome, YT site is fine but no embedded videos on KVR showing up. So, not browser specific for me.

Desktop on a Mac, for me, is fine.

Seems to be an iOS limitation. Apple doesn't allow other browser engines, in fact all browsers on iOS have to use the Safari engine and as I said, embedding in general seems to be a problem. I don't see the YouTube video there either (not even in the iOS Chrome browser).

Same for me on my iPad (iOS 16.4) and MacBook (Safari 16.4) as well, even when I deactivate Content Blockers.

I’m not seeing videos either, iOS 16.41

Tried DuckDuckGo browser and Firefox, no change.

It used to work though - not sure when it stopped exactly but it must be something relatively recent as I have posted Youtube links myself before so know those worked

This was probably "optimised" with one of the iOS updates :-D Since all browsers on iOS use the same engine, it doesn't really matter which browser, since they all have to use Apple's version of Webkit...

Apparently people are getting “Embedded Video Sandbox Browser errors” on other sites (I don’t get any error here, just no media player).

It is being said that the only solution for now is to downgrade to iOS 16.31 (but I read an article that said Apple had made that downgrade impossible now), or sign up to get the 16.5 beta [edit: tried 16.5 beta, still didn’t work] — so I guess it’s just a matter of waiting for the fix for most folks.

I just installed the iOS 16.5 developer beta and I still don’t see any embedded video players, so actually there seems to be no fix at this time.

[EDIT: If you “quote” the post the embedded player is in you can at least see the link to YouTube or wherever]

Working fine here now on iOS. Not sure what happened as I didn’t change anything here.

I only know that there was an iOS Update which includes an update to Safari 16.4.1 (2 or 3 days ago)

This works fine on Safari version 16.4 (17615.1.26.101.9, 17615)

Mind you, I'm still on MacOs v12.6.4 "Monterey", highest my 2016 MBP supports...
