Speaking of layering I guess there's no way to do this

In FL Studio. So I have 3 lead sounds all going to one mixer track. I'd like to be able to EQ these leads separately before they get to that bus. I don't see any way how except to route all 3 to separate busses, then back to the summing track. This will eat up CPU. Is there some secret I don't know about that can do this? I'm almost sure you can do this in Reaper, but I haven't used it in a while.

So FLS does not have a plugin bay on each VST instrument out?
- that where I would put any plugins

CPU, does FLS not have a smooth freeze to in just a press of a button make all audio of plugins?
- Cakewalk/Sonar does that, and free all resources in one button press
- and one button press to restore

lead 1->EQ \
lead 2->EQ -- send to -> Same bus
lead 3->EQ /

So to their own tracks.

No. Well they do but the only Filter option is if it's a sample. There's a Filter knob. I think it's only lowpass. The only thing the manual suggests is making them into a DirectWave instrument. But then I lose all the synth internal effects.

are you saying, when you open an instrument in fl, it doesn't open it's own mixer channel? with inserts and sends?

No you have the choice of what mixer track it goes to. You can also leave it blank which just defaults to the Master.

Send each instrument to a separate track (1, 2, 3) and send the outputs of those to 4. If you do not add many effects on the pre-bus tracks, very little CPU bloat is caused. What reason do you claim that it causes great CPU consumption?

Post

Could you put an EQ after each synth before sending them all to the same mixer track? I'm wondering why you want them all on the same track ( :? )

Most DAWs work as follows: create a track, insert the softsynth plugin on the track, insert effects on the track

If FLS isnt doing that by default, probably best to determine if it can do that. Or look into using that modular patch-y thing that they have. Patcher I think it is.

I'm saying about the CPU because I'm pushing 85 % now. It also takes forever to close the program. I don't know why that is, but I started another yesterday and noticed when I saved It went through this pantomime of saving everything on the Master to each and every bus track. There's like 199 of them and I wish FL would put a Macro in that closes unused Mixer tracks. You can purge unused audio.

If this is the same track as you were working on last week then you regained back 15%. Yay! :party:

I did. I turned off animations and some other things and got it down to 85% CPU.

I am unsure about FL studio but the scenario of EQing individually and then globally is not an alternative use case but the way it is supposed to be done.
So you can assume for certain that a recognised and mature product like FL does it and does it freaking well with all internal optimisation you can think of.

My point of telling you that is that your 85% cpu usage is not normal at all and you should try to debug it first.

5 of minutes poking around the online user manual would answer this for OP. Maybe even quicker as I’m a slow reader lol.

It’s in the Routing Instrument Channels to Mixer Tracks subsection of Mixer Functions under the Mixer and Mixing chapter.
