Hello colleagues, may sound strange my question but it seems, i can't get it right. For ambience, cinematique, realxing and meditative flowing music - I don't get it right. My drums are always to dominant, too punchy, harsh, bombastic, even theatralic, pompous.
It seems I have the wrong tools. So what would I use, if I want to create a sound like at the beginnung of this track just f.e.:

Or any hint and recommendation how to create a more relaxing, mellow beat, a pleasant decent flowing rhythm would be very apreciated.
Thank you for your time.

On the sound (rather than the playing/programming), best to use a decent multisampled vst/sample set with a lot of velocity layers, and scale the velocities down so you're using the lower ones.
Just as a very quick example, this is using Addictive Drums 'Funk' ADpack with all the velocities for each drum in the lower third;

A lot of it comes down to tempo. Keep it low and mellow, 120 BPM or less. It helps if your music is more instrumental. Keep your beats simple and less busier than usual. Drumsticks can be changed to rods, brushes, or mallets to tone down share hits. More products to mute or dampen drums can be found at Sweetwater.
