Just received an presonus atom SQ and trying to figure out how to use it as a step sequencer in Ableton Live exclusively ?,fully aware that the unit is implemented mainly for use in studio one but surely I can step sequence it TR style in live 11?

Read the manual for it. There's a whole section on Live and how it's integrated. Or, you can just use the S1 that comes with. 
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?
