Hmm... for 2000's trance I would recommend you look into the native Korg Triton plugin. The Triton is loaded with those sounds and was a popular workstation across the 2000's. A lot of people really wanted a native version back in the day.
For earlier VST's of that era though... I remember Z3TA, V-Station and SuperWave plugins being popular back then. And of course the KORG Legacy Collection was out at the time too.
Later 2000's I remember hearing a lot about Sylenth 1 and Massive.

I don’t like Trance, but for me, the plugins that I remember using the most were Absynth, Zebra, Wavestation, Discovery Pro, Z3TA+ and Sytrus. Maybe Minimonsta 1…

I like early 90s (Goa) Trance. I'm sure that the OP is thinking of some other kind of music, also called Trance.

Regarding Massive for trance, I was making a lot of vocal trance back in that period and frequenting many trance forums and I recall it being shunned by many (myself included) because it was such a CPU killer at that time. Just one or two instances would bring most of the typical CPUs from that period to their knees, so trance producers gravitated toward synths that were easy on the CPU in order to layer up 15-20 tracks or more (e.g., Sylenth1, V-Station, Vanguard, Albino, etc.).

I'm not sure about the Trance designation, per se, from that period, but Camelion 5000 (morphing into Alchemy) was pretty big then. Tim Conrardy (R.I.P., gentle soul) was still with us and had some plug-ins, including Enceladus. The very first plug-in instrument I can recall and owned was Seer Systems' Reality (early 1990s.) Atmosphere, the predecessor to Omnisphere was introduced in 2002.

Yup, the Virus was pretty much the holy grail of trance synths in the 2000s.egbert101 wrote: Sat Jul 22, 2023 1:19 pm I guess Access Virus is hardware but wasn't it also essential for trance sounds? Anyway, you can find it in software now for free.

I remember most producers were using primarily hardware synths up until 2002-2003 onwards when the first good sounding vsts appeared and computing power ramped up. That was when software became more popular. Around that time it was Oddity, V-station, Z3ta, Imposcar, Pro52 etc.
But like I say it was still mostly boxes like the Virus, Novation synths, Roland JP’s etc….
As for pushing on towards 2008 I really don’t know…. Vanguard, Albino, RP Predator maybe…?
