this is the one large procrastination that keeps me doing zilch

i just enjoy singing( i can actually sing good when i practice ) for the most part i like some keys can strum the guitar

and play around with daws from time to time

but i don’t wanna be a multi instrumentalist

and i can’t find a band i need to make songs myself

i want to get good at one

as singing is what i love im having a hard time choosing my secondary

and i can play a bit of all of em like a above but not good enough any help ?

Post

used to be a little guitar
then a little bass
strictly computer here now

when i stayed at cheap motels
one prostitute next door stayed up all night
played music all the time
songs i didn't recognize
but the bass was always nice
so that got me interested in bass and peter hook

if i suck at it, i tend to not enjoy it

i suck at musicmaking but i do enoy doing it

ah, don't take advise from me, man

Is there actually a question anyone but you can answer?

I think you know already, deep down, for starters you need to concentrate on just one thing.

Which one are you likely to enjoy the most?
Which one will likely benefit you the most?
What type of music do you want to produce?
What will you need to learn considering the former?
If something stops you from learning it, can you hire someone to do it for you?

Depending on your answers to those questions, the answer can vary. And one potential answer is "you're sadly gonna have to learn to be a multi-instrumentalist".

Get a LinnStrument. One of the main reasons why I got one in the first place was to only use one interface, so I do not have to buy every instrument out there to learn all of them, as I do not have the time nor space.

although this sounds like a stupid question i’m
asking its one that has me procrastinating for a long time

and i’ve been in bout of depression for 3 years now gained weight and want to get socible again get my confidence back

now singing is what i really enioy
when i have sung live without an instrument in my hand i’ve been the happiest

now i’m lazy and i overthink and procrastinate

i need to learn something to accompany if i’m
gonna write my own songs
and now i’m getting old so it’s time to get a bit more serious

i’m
far from
doing
this but here are the potential future and pros and cons

Acoustic guitar
Pros : sociable instrument , meet people small gigs
can take it anywhere all around the house
family’s house the beach , he’ll even the toilet .

cons : only one sound mostly fit into a few styles
like singer songwriter country etc , have to practice hard
to record stuff live

Piano / keyboard synth
pros : versatile can use any sounds can connect to computer and play stuff in badly and edit it afterwards , can make any styles even probably acoustic guitar ish music

cons : stays only in my bedroom
not a sociable instrument

Computer :
pros , you can use it with the piano a little and you can not bother learning an instrument , you
can take a laptop anywhere like the acoustic guitar with headphones , you get all the sounds the beats , any genre you can create with this bad boy

cons , socially isolating , steepest learning curve although not physically like guitar and piano mentally there’s a lot to learn

now i’m just in my early 40s and i still have time
for
this JUST i would say , with computer longer probabaly there’s no cut off point

but as this is part of turning my life around completly

i gotta take all these things into consideration

my problem i have sat here the last week

thinking what i’m gonna do

tinkering around with the guitar and the piano and the computer

and i can’t decide

i could sing all day without going in my shell

playing keyboards i will
go in my shell after an hour
same with guitar ( guess that’s just mental concentration

going on the computer i will come
off like a zombie

now am i just being lazy is there some compromise

like if you see people in youtube videos producing there mostly smiling

i find it stressfull quite a bit

you can see i overthink

all the gear and no idea

6 months of throwing myself into something and i would be on the way

should
i forget about the pros and cons ?

i shouldn’t even be asking this question but hearing what people say may help slightly so thank you people

more answers welcome

That's a big "if". Who says you should?

There's a lot of peer pressure today, people seem to think you need to do everything, and be good at everything. Nonsense. Bull crap! That is a recipe for frustrations, disappointments, followed by low self esteem.

Do only what you really enjoy doing. Then it doesn't matter any more whether you're any good at it as well. Because you're just having fun. No one can be judgemental about that.

i kinda wanna write my own songs bert and i can forgot to mention that

i think some of it needs to be a little hard work or we can’t progress to the next level

but your right it needs to be fun

id say guitar.

you are over thinking how much you need to do, if it's just for a vocal accompaniment, you are mainly looking at chords.

the clash said "all you need is three chords and the truth"

you may never be a virtuoso, but a few chords here n there, is enough to strum at the beach, singing a few lines.
do this often, you'll become better. and while achieving your goal of social interaction.

seems more like the important bit to me, than becoming a superstar guitar player.

Man, acoustic guitar wasn't limited for me. Since I had no access to electric guitars for a couple of years, I learned unplugged versions of Hendrix, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Stones, and so on.
It's portable, minimal overhead, and the only limit is your imagination. Different tunings can give songs a very different, special feel and tone. It is less time intensive to learn than the piano, as well, if you're going to play that properly.
