Selling Gear: Seeking Website Recommendations

I've got some hardware I'd like to sell without shipping it, mostly guitar gear. I'm in a big city in the US (if more specificity is needed, let me know). Many years ago, I used Craiglist. But I haven't kept up to date with sites available for this type of thing. What websites would you recommend?

Reverb.com and Stillwater Gear Exchange are two of the bigger ones. You can specify local pick-up only/no shipping. But, IME craigslist is still the best option for local sales. I think FB Marketplace is probably another option, but I hate FB and never use it, so I can't vouch for it.

Yeah, I still prefer craigslist most of the time. You can set a Reverb listing to local pickup only but the fees are pretty high.
Never used FB market place but I know some folks who buy and sell frequently there.

Guitar Center will buy used gear. Please keep in mind they will low ball your item values though. The plus is they will issue you a check on the spot and you'll be done with it.

Yeah, not to mention that the buyer will have to pay taxes on it. Besides, I personally almost never see anything for sale on Reverb in my city (Sacramento, CA area, which is a pretty populous area). So the chances of a local buyer happening upon the item(s) you are selling seem pretty slim compared to good 'ol craigslist.

During the pandemic Brit and I sold a few things on craigslist but wanted to avoid contact as much as possible. I didn't mind having people come to our address as long as they didn't come inside... so we'd would put the sale item in the trunk of my car (in the driveway) and ask the buyer to put their money in our mailbox. Once the money was in my mailbox, I would pop open my trunk, so they could claim their item. It worked out pretty well!

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I'll stick with craigslist. Facebook groups is probably viable around here. But I don't have a fb account so won't try that unless craigslist doesn't work out.

What're you looking to part with?

Nothing special (I'm not the greatest at sales). A few midrange guitar multi-effects like the Boss GT-100, Zoom G5, Digitech RP1000, an Electro Harmonix Tube Zipper, Avid Eleven Rack, Kemper, a pair of M-Audio DSM3 monitors. Stuff like that.

Before the pandemic, I sold a few things at my house. I plan on meeting at some public space with an outlet so they can test the item. My city has a few designated areas for that. But I might end up being too lazy. Just meet at my house.

Thanks. Plugged it in this morning. Took it a bit of time to warm up (I thought it might be busted), but it is sounding good and crunchy.

Nice! I have one of those and a TubEQ and while they can be a little noisy, they sound great and can get pretty weird. That Trill mode in particular. The TubEQ has an expression input for the mid band frequency, and with the hi and low bands turned down, it can be used as a tube driven wah pedal. It's awesome with the EHX Step8 sequencer.

I remember considering the EQ but the Zipper videos at the time convinced me to go with it. The Drive knob on mine is kind of stiff, do you know if there is a standard remedy for that?

I have a ton of things to sell before end of year, and have looked into this and sold some items in the past this way. I was hoping to find some new ideas here, but Craigslist seems to be still the best place to sell items for local pickup.

Use Reverb and Ebay as lead generation for your Craigslist advert. Stipulate them as local only and price them higher than your listing on CL. You might have to pay a small listing fee, can't cross-list or reference your CL ad, but smart buyers will find you ... or else you get your price anyway after fees, or at least open yourself for a best offer.

Also check out thegearpage.net and usaudiomart.com as both have ability to list music gear, although you may have to pay to list.
