There must be thousands of EQ plugins with more being released constantly. I don't get it, why do vendors continue to release new EQ plugins nowadays and why are people still buying them? Are there serious advancements to EQ technology?

Post

It's funny though that despite this, only recently has someone actually released one called 'Equaliser' :)

Because we KVR forum regulars have all been blessed (cursed?) with golden ears, so we can hear all the deficiencies in every EQ currently on the market. Once you hit 1,000 posts, you’ll be assimilated. :borg:

But, seriously, it’s a good question and I’ve always just assumed that it’s because EQs are possibly one of the easier plugins to code?

People in this hobby have a mental disorder and they hoard plugins into the hundreds, as long as the marketing materials convince people there is something new or unique some people will buy the plugin.

Compressor for example, the more must be like 20 emulations of the LA-2A.

It is like pokemons, you have to catch em all

1) it's a non-creative DSP type thus it doesn't require the many weird musician, psychoacoustic and other skillsets to make that some products would
2) musicians are suckers and buy stupid things like guitars based on their lacquer and skeuomorphic GUIs

20?

More like 20 additional new ones in just the last year only.

Its ridiculous, especially in the last few years. Everybody hopping on the hype-wagon.I guess everybody wants to sound the same.

The same with 1176, Fairchilds, pultec, SSL, Lexicon 480...

There are a lot of different frequencies, therefore we need a lot of different EQs.
For each frequency the suitable one.
That's worth a fortune.

as long as people keep buying them and they are profitable, there will be new plugins coming out

To make you spend money and to make you realize that your daw's eq will do the job best

maybe because many have been led to believe that the filter curve has more to do with things than the positions of said curves?

and as was stated earlier an EQ is easier to code. just throw on a flashy gui and a strange name and idiots will buy it.
