Analog Four MK2 or Syntakt and Moog Minitaur

Question with instruments that are not really compatible I understand.
The Analog Four MK2 has four analog tracks, Syntakt mono, already a big difference in concept.
I had a Subsequent 37, a marvel, but I sold it because for my use, a Moog Minitaur already has the big Moog sound and I thought the sequencer with the Syntakt, it should normally be a good combination.
I still want to have the Moog sound.
I don't think it's possible to find a synth/module that can properly emulate the Moog sound.
The reason for the Minitaur option.
I have read on the other hand that there were sometimes problems with the Minitaur, concern for the filter, for reliability.
Do you have similar experiences and/or information?
With the Syntakt and Minitaur option, I still have the Moog sound.
Analog four mk2, one hell of a machine, it's clear, but even with its four analog channels, it's not certain that it will sound as fat and thick as the Minitaur.
What do you think ?
If you have any other suggestions, please feel free.

Syntakt actually has 12 tracks (4 analog, 8 digital), but yes, a pretty different design concept than the A4mk2. The A4mk2 straddles the lines between 4-voice poly synth, 4 independent mono synths, and groovebox, whereas the Syntakt is a 12-track hybrid groovebox.
Minitaur is a great way to get that Moog sound for a low price, and I agree that it's a better representation of the classic Moog sound than the Subsequent 37. I personally think the Little/Slim Phatty is even better. There's also the Studio Electronics SE-1X or 3X, which is even better IMO, but much larger and more expensive.Trancer wrote: Tue Aug 22, 2023 4:50 pm I don't think it's possible to find a synth/module that can properly emulate the Moog sound.

I never had any problems with my Minitaur when I owned one.Trancer wrote: Tue Aug 22, 2023 4:50 pmI have read on the other hand that there were sometimes problems with the Minitaur, concern for the filter, for reliability.
If the real Moog sound is what you're after, the A4mk2 will probably disappoint you. Not that it can't get into the same territory, but it's a different synth, different filter, and different concept/paradigm. It's FAR more versatile than any Moog, but it's not a Moog.Trancer wrote: Tue Aug 22, 2023 4:50 pm Analog four mk2, one hell of a machine, it's clear, but even with its four analog channels, it's not certain that it will sound as fat and thick as the Minitaur.

Thank you very much for your answer.
I heard the Minitaur and it sounds divine, the sound is there.
The Subsequent 37 offers enormous possibilities, but I prefer to go back to basics, simple and efficient and the Minitaur seems to fill that perfectly.
Studio Electronics is the top very clearly, huge sound, but the price is a reflection of the performance of this machine.
I was thinking of pairing the Minitaur with the Syntakt.
Two separate machines, but the Elektron sequencer and the Syntakt machines and the Moog sound could really be a really good combination.
I often talk about the Analog Four MK2, but it's a shame that to have an elaborate sound you need to dive into it in depth and it lacks the fat, thick original analog sound, I find.
Mail Analog Four MK2 offers exceptional sound design possibilities.

ive had my minitaur for a long time, never noticed an issue with unreliable filter.

i got it a year after they were released, and have noticed no issues with it.
still feels and sounds like the day it arrived.

how often are you going to use the moog sound you are after? there are lots of software emulations out there now for less money. Just a thought

Thank you for your reply.
Indeed, there are excellent vst which emulates the Moog sound really well.
But, I'm in a Dawless setup, so using vst isn't an option anymore.
I will use the Moog a lot to create bass.
The Minitaur considering the price is still reasonable for Moog hardware.

I'm selling an ATC-X which has Model D oscillator clones and clones of four different filters, including a Model D, SEM, 303 and ARP. One of the Moogiest modern synths, and that includes everything from the last decade of from Moog, except for the Mother line.Trancer wrote: Tue Aug 22, 2023 4:50 pm

I love my Analog Four, but I can't imagine a synth that's further from the Moog sound. Totally different animal. Not nearly as fat, but does a lot of tricks and has it's own vibe.Analog four mk2, one hell of a machine, it's clear, but even with its four analog channels, it's not certain that it will sound as fat and thick as the Minitaur.

PM me for a much better price. (had to inflate due to Reverb's greedy fee structure)

Thank you very much for your answer.
Indeed, the Moog sound with an Analog Four MK2 is not really possible to achieve.
Now we don't take it for that either.
A very special and unique universe.
Thank you for offering me the module, but I do not buy second-hand equipment.

Behringer Model D or Poly D, and Behringer Toro come to mind. Also Crave has a massive sound for a single oscillator and Ladder filter.
Some others with ladder filter are Sequential Pro-3 and Arturia MatrixBrute.
I have the Analog Four MkII and indeed, it has a nice bass sound but would not call it Moog.

Thank you for your reply.
Indeed, Berhinger has very good products on this subject.
Only concern, reliability and quality over time.
Matrixbrute, an option indeed, a little expensive on the other hand for a mono.

Well, I have Syntakt, Octatrack and Digitone. The power of these boxes comes from hands on creativity, not because of their sound. I always see them as a fun boxes to jam with, and once you have something to record, you can utilize the power of Overbridge to record multitrack (except Octatrack). Syntakt is the one I praise the most, you can get drums and bass sounds from it, hands on, and nothing replicate it in a plugins form as far as I know.
Also had Behringer Model D and Neutron, but sold them after a while. The lack of presets, warm time, manual osc tuning is a thing from the past that I wasn't willing to deal with every time. Having said that, Neutron is one of the best sounding synths I have heard so far.
Regarding Minitaur, I personally don't see how this complements Syntakt, because Syntakt already has an analog bass. Consider Subsequent 37 and Syntakt.

Suit yourself, but you will get more trouble free use from anything made by Studio Electronics than the disposable Behringer stuff. I imagine the ATC-X could go on indefinitely, considering its interface. No pots to ever wear out, though you may eventually need a new encoder. I mostly use the editor, though, which works great and is easier for my workflow.Trancer wrote: Wed Aug 23, 2023 8:08 am Thank you very much for your answer.
