If you have bought an AMD based GPU in the past ten years, this will be music to your ears. Available September 6th.

That is an interesting question and one that I am curious about. Are there any plugins that can use GPU power to offload processing from the CPU?No_Use wrote: Sat Aug 26, 2023 11:29 pm Gamers, frame rates, yawn.
Does it benefit music production?

It's a con, a desperate throw of the dice from a company that is so far behind their competitor they have nothing to lose. You only have to look at what each company is worth - nVidia is a trillion dollar company, AMD is worth about $170 billion and GPUs are only part of its business.
If you listen to the first 3 minutes or so of the second video, you'll understand why it's a largely meaningless technology. Absurdly high frame rates are only useful in giving you an advantage over an opponent of a few milliseconds and this technology won't help there, so it's not going to be of any real benefit to customers, unless maybe you have a really old GPU.

Nothing to see here folks. OP has completely missed the fact that FSR3 will also run on NVidia GPUs as far back as 10 series from 2016.If you have bought an AMD based GPU in the past ten years, this will be music to your ears.
Cue hysterical whooping from all the fanbois for being able to use an AMD card even older than that.

I very recently built an AMD music/gaming rig with a 5900X and a 6700XT (after being Intel/Nvidia for 15 years) and I'm very happy with it.
It runs Bitwig and all my plugins flawlessly, stays quite cool and silent so I couldn't be happier.
The only reason why I'm interested in this announcement is that I would be able to run games with basically the same framerate I have now but using less GPU power and therefore spend less on electricity.

You might want to do an ROI on that , bet you wouldn’t save enough on your electricity bills to pay for the card for a very long time.Ghostwave wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2023 8:39 am I very recently built an AMD music/gaming rig with a 5900X and a 6700XT (after being Intel/Nvidia for 15 years) and I'm very happy with it.

I don't see it as an investment as I don't make money off of it but if I can save a few euros while not changing anything about the way I use it, what's not to like?otwer22 wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2023 12:06 pmYou might want to do an ROI on that , bet you wouldn’t save enough on your electricity bills to pay for the card for a very long time.Ghostwave wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2023 8:39 am I very recently built an AMD music/gaming rig with a 5900X and a 6700XT (after being Intel/Nvidia for 15 years) and I'm very happy with it.

If you're talking low-latency audio performance (hardware being 100% identical other than AMD/Nvidia):
With AMD RX6xxx/RX7xxx video cards, you'll experience audible glitches sooner than running an Nvidia RTX.
For that reason, at present... we won't use AMD video cards (for personal or client DAWs).

Thanks for keeping me up to date. AMD make nice graphics cards; guess I just wanted to impress on YouTube more than anything by buying an Nvidia lol, brag about my mid-end card that I got cheaper than most did; and what have you.
I don't make audio products anymore. I sell furniture & smart products.

I've also read the opposite, that Nvidia cards are worse for DPC latency.
Haven't had any problems with either but then I don't tend to install bloatware like GeForce Experience and so on which cause a lot of problems.
Ideally you'd have a dedicated music PC but for many it has to be combined with gaming, office work etc. because we don't have the space or money for multiple high-end computers.
FSR3 is interesting for Nvidia users too. It might negate one of the few reasons to upgrade from an RTX 3000 to a 4000 card. The lower-end cards in the new series (4060/TI/4070) are barely an improvement over the corresponding 3000-series card except for DLSS3 frame-gen.

Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
