Logic Drummer vs. Garageband Drummer vs. EZD3 vs. Everything Else!

1. Logic has more kits and sonic versatility, but are the Drummer engines identical?
2. Will they provide the same level of groove selection that is based on the tracks at hand?
3. How does Drummer compare to EZDrummer 3 for A.I.-type drum assistance?
4. Is there a better alternative than Apple and Toontrack?

3. Logic actually plays along, EZD simply searches for one of its patterns it thinks will match the track you feed it. I occasionally use both just to get a different slant, then I play them in myself. I think EZD offers a larger variety, but is more hands-on. But I often find Logic's efforts give me more to think about
4. No better alternatives that I can think of, but I'm hardly aware of everything that might out there.

Thanks, Jonljacobi. I will probably use both and then adjust or make my own afterwards . . . similar to your workflow.
Melda Drummer does something with patterns, but not sure how or what.

Drummer is the biggest reason why I am sticking with Logic. I keep trying to migrate to another DAW, but I really need that drum support.pdxindy wrote: Sat Sep 16, 2023 1:05 pm I haven't tried anything that works as well as Logic's Drummer.

I have no experience with Logic Drummer. There was Jam Stix but that's not been updated for Apple Silicon and is looking like it never will be.
EZDrummer3 is a really good product. I love that you can play in audio and it will find a groove, then you can drag that groove into Song Creator and it'll build a song with a few preset patterns, then you can go in and edit the Play Style of each section to tweak things (e.g. "the leading hand should be the ride here, not the hat, and at a lower overall velocity" or "the snare should be a little busier in the second half of the verse"). I was working on a song last week where I did all of this and it was honestly a great experience.
I'm surprised the groove finder/song creator/play style editor features haven't shown up in SD3 yet, so at the moment, I actually rate EZD3 over the flagship SD3. The EZD3 kits also sound excellent out of the box. I don't feel like they're lacking obvious velocity layers or that they feel "cut down" in any way.
Note: I'm a BFD guy from way back in the day and still think BFD3 sounds more realistic with their cymbal swell modeling and there are some killer BFD kits, but kudos to the Toontrack team for making EZDrummmer3 so easy to work with and so effective at building groves and songs. It's borderline magic.
