United Plugin has just release Plamen, a new multiband saturator.

It's a very good plugin, i really enjoy how saturation sounds, and the ability to switch between natural and linear phase. I also like the intro price :hihi: cause it's only 19€

That's the product page for more infos: https://unitedplugins.com/Plamen/

If you want to listen it in action here's a quick video

I've been demoing this. I am not big on the use of distortion but this has some interesting characteristics. Mostly adding weight and girth without sounding too distorted, of course depending on settings. seems to be a versatile distoriton tool for adding that kind of low level weight or real distortion. over-sampling makes a big difference as expected. its also nice to have linear and non-linear phase crossovers. and, nice UI, presets... i just have to listen a little closer to determine how redundant it may be with my other similar tools.

Only 19 Euros too (introduction price).

Do you have Sixth Sample F(l)atter? Just from the feature list, seems like one contemporary plugin with the closest overlap. Choice of linear phase, but one fewer band and more distortion/saturation options. Would be the two I will face off at some later date.

Any more recommendations? And how does it compare to Fabfilter Saturn 2? I'm also considering denise audio God Mode but it doesn't look like it has oversampling options.

Denise God Mode does seem to be more or less comparable on paper.

Saturn 2 is not an apt comparison, given the modulation. Good discussion here viewtopic.php?t=600398

Post

This one not really doing much for me personally.

Are you being dense on purpose? Saturn has multiband saturation so it is an apt comparison.

Post

Saturn 2 is much more flexible IMHO and I prefer its sound overall.

I was trying to lay out the apples to apples comparison, not the apples to pineapples. This has been discussed repeatedly here and I even linked to a relevant thread. Yes Saturn 2 has multiband saturation, but it has modulation and does more. Also costs a lot more, and I thus place it into a different category. Perhaps you do not. Do as you wish, but perhaps be a bit friendlier with those who choose to split hairs differently than yourself. :tu:

That’s really dumb logic. There’s no need to put plugins into a single category. Intelligent people are able to pull things apart and examine the pieces.

With your logic, if a synth has a built-in saturation effect then I can’t compare it to other saturation plugins because one plug-in is a synth and the other is an effect. It makes no sense.

I might want a multiband distortion effect without modulation, with linear phase crossovers, and that doesn't set me back three figures. I can divide effects into any categories I want for point of comparison. Happens all the time in these forums, I daresay daily, and if it is "dumb logic" as you call it, there's nothing you can do about it ... except apparently double down on being a dick with a straw man argument about synths.

For the sake of comparison, and without any disregard to Plamen (which looks amazing and is priced right), I think it might be interesting to bring these 3 plugins to the table :

The good old Kombinat Tri (3 bands, master compressor and filter) :

The free Fire (many bands, master compressor, filter and stereo widener) :

kHz SnapHead (many bands and some modulations if required) :

Then don’t correct people for stupid reasons. Your fixation with modulation doesn’t invalidate comparisons between saturation effects.

Maybe I don't want modulation in an effect because the interface and workflow are simpler without it. Maybe I have alternate methods of modulating. Maybe I want one saturation that is light and quick to implement, like this, and another that is more involved, like Saturn.

I would call it a basis of comparison rather than a fixation. By all means disagree with me, but please explain how exactly your insults and put-downs raise the level of discourse. What meaningful contribution to the conversation about multiband saturators have you made here to this thread?
