I’m surprised that anyone is surprised.

Well... if you charge 10 times what you should, just because of your brand name, and perceived better quality, because you manufacture in the U.S., then it might not be that surprising indeed.
I doubt that they weren't doing so well anyway, after first scratching the "employee owned" majority of shares, to becoming sold to another company. Not really a sign of a flourishing company.

A company’s heath or profitability isn’t necessarily a sign that they’re going to be acquired. When I met my wife, she was VP at a small and profitable company. They got bought a few years later for their customers and some key employees (my wife stayed on), but the entire code base scrapped. They maintained the product for a short time, but mostly just worked to transition them to their software. A few years after, that company was purchased by an even bigger company.chk071 wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 7:15 pmWell... if you charge 10 times what you should, just because of your brand name, and perceived better quality, because you manufacture in the U.S., then it might not be that surprising indeed.

This is the way.
Employment in the US is super hot right now. That’s partially why inflation is so stubborn. Those employees all had their shares of Moog purchased and should have been job hunting if they were smart.
I’m not saying any of this is good, but it wouldn’t be the first time it happened to a company and not even the first time it happened to Moog.

Not necessarily, but, if you go from employee owned to being sold off, then the probability is high.zerocrossing wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 7:30 pmA company’s heath or profitability isn’t necessarily a sign that they’re going to be acquired.chk071 wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 7:15 pmWell... if you charge 10 times what you should, just because of your brand name, and perceived better quality, because you manufacture in the U.S., then it might not be that surprising indeed.

Anyway, I'm sure many here will see this as the end of the world for Moog Music again. Which is a shame, because, I see it as a chance that people who could never afford a Moog synth might be able to do so in the future.

By the way, just read that in another thread:
That coming from a store owner who actually has to do with returns, I would say that's pretty meaningful.Uncle E wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 7:37 pm US-made Moog's have quality control issues. Making them in China may actually improve things.

It always sucks when folks get laid off but I've heard a slightly different account of things and I'm not sure how much of the rumors are based in reality. Hope the folks who did lose their jobs land on their feet.
My takes is, several things can be true at once. I think that trying to stick to the ideals of building synths like a small operation is admirable, despite the costs involved. Business decisions are often made to ensure the health of a brand and those decisions can negatively affect the folks who helped make that business what it is. It may also be true that the sale to inMusic and the changes that are sure to follow will help the Moog brand in the end. While there is certainly a market for the stuff that Moog makes, more customer's will ultimately mean the legacy of Bob Moog lives on, even if the products are different.
It's too early to say whether changes are for better or worse but I do know that there are some Moog employees who are just as stressed about the coverage of the news as they are about the substance of the matter.

The term "we are like family", whenever I hear a manager use that term, the first thing I think is that they deserve a solid punch in the face. I feel bad for the ex moog employees, I bet that term was used on them quite a bit

Anyone who is surprised doesn't know how private equity companies work. They minimize cost while maximizing profit, even if it will end the brand.
I would suggest you look into it as they are present in pretty much every sector and subsector of American services and goods.

Im well aware. In my industry, Private Equity is buying up stores all over the country. I work in Optical (bleh) but just using it as an example, Private Equity is literally destroying an entire industry. Crazy

Will InMusic now rebrand their Akai Timbre Wolf as a Moog product since its all interchangeable crap to them?
(The Timbre Wolf is one of the worst analog synths ever.)

Once one of the founders of a company that I worked for said that to me and I replied, “does that mean you can’t fire me?”vertibration wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 10:55 pm The term "we are like family", whenever I hear a manager use that term, the first thing I think is that they deserve a solid punch in the face. "We are like family" said in the workplace is more likely to mean "I'm dad, you're the kid. I'm going to spank your arse and there's nothing you can do about it. If you run crying to mum, I'm going to spank her as well (but in a different way
). Now drop your pants and bend over."

So the inMusic Asheville manufacturing facility is being shut down. Manufacturing of Moog-branded inMusic synthesizers is being relocated to Asia.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
