What Orwell wanted to warn us about.
What really happened.
What really happened.
You can be creative in any right place on Earth, and not only in the wealthiest cities. Bring the world feelings from everywhere, and not only feelings of capitalistic or jail environment.

1984. Frankie Goes To Hollywood had hits with Relax and Two Tribes while Propaganda had Dr Mabuse.
ZTT made everything else suddenly sound rubbish.

It was a fine year.
Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel - White Lines
U2 - Pride (In The Name Of Love)
Madonna - Like A Virgin
Ultravox - Dancing With Tears In My Eyes
Rufus & Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody
And I'm not proud, some terrific straight pop too:
Bananrama - Robert De Niro's Waiting
Miami Sound Machine - Dr Beat
Philip Oakey and Georgio Moroder - Together In Electric Dreams
Drive by the Cars is now indelibly associated with Live Aid (and rightly so), but it was a regular slow dance song in 1984. But speaking of Live Aid, Band Aid was Christmas '84. Still love everything about both. I watched this mini documentary on VHS a lot.
PS - Midge Ure's autobiography is a good read. That man got around.

Appreciation of videos or instruments?

I just watched Band Aid again. Every lead vocal a white man, but otherwise well done all. In the end credits I noticed one of the camera ops for the documentary was Roger Deakins.
Also featuring briefly in the documentary was an Asteroids arcade game. That was '79.
So really I think '84 was a lot more notable for the music itself and pop culture than the instruments. Though I do love the 106.
Apart from the 106, what were the other big releases of '84? I was gonna say the mixed blessing that was the DX7, but apparently that was '83. The Fairlight and Synclavier were long out, the PPG Wave features in the Band Aid video, that goes back to '81 in its first incarnation.

Nice. Of that little list, the Mirage and Emulator 2 were a big deal and there's some good expanders, but the big one that leaps out is the 909. 4 years later it was the only thing on the radio.
