First time poster here.
I am a surf guitarist and spring reverb (and tremolo) aficionado. I am currently looking for a new spring reverb VST. I currently have the Eventide Spring and Black Rooster Audio RO-SPR vintage Spring Reverb, but I am also interested in a more dirty spring reverb (surf guitar, James Bond theme).
I noticed a topic on this forum from a few years back. The consensus seemed to be that Spirit Reverb by Aegean Music set a new standard in spring reverb. But that topic was 5 years ago. What is the state of affairs in 2023?
What is your favorite spring reverb in 2023?
Thanks.
Peter

Mixwave Benson Tall Bird. Particularly if you're a surf guitarist. I love playing surf and that one fits the bill.
After that, the Mixwave Milkmave Harmonic Tremolo+Spring is good, but brighter sounding. Then of course, Audio Thing Springs. That one is the most versatile covering lots of springs, but for surf guitar, I'd say start with the Mixwave Tall Bird.
Note: I own a LOT of spring plugins. I also have a number of springs in my amps (Princeton Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb, '94 Twin Amp, Vox AC15C1). I LOVE springs.

They're really good, and you don't have to buy the bundle with the amp sims to get the FX. You can just buy the standalone FX, which is nice. Though be warned: the harmonic tremolo disappears in mono. Seems the way they coded it has zero mono compatibility, which makes no sense because harmonic tremolo was a mono effect in most amps. But we're talking about Spring reverb, not harmonic tremolo (I only mention it because the one plugin includes both).perpetual3 wrote: Mon Oct 16, 2023 4:23 pm Never heard of those mixwave plugs. You know, I never used those on anything other than Guitar and Rhodes, but they'd probably work. Give them a demo and let us know.

Twangström, I stopped looking for another spring reverb after I got it. It offers enough control over the the sound and behaviour that it should cover most of your spring reverb needs.

I have it in the fx bundle, but haven't used it, but I'm working on changing this as not all Spring verbs are the same.
Dub music foundations (Lee "Scratch" Perry) and Pete Townsend are two names that keep popping up for this one.
Here's some fun info on the Arturia Spring 636, based on the Grampian Reverberation Unit Type 636

Physical Audio Dual Spring, if you want a realistic physical model. All others sound fake or canned.

This is what you would use with an ampsim for the spring reverb.

I got a real tank this year. It's just a really special real sound.
