Some sort of box more than a foot away from other people's box so I can use a tube amp. If my tube amp box has somewhere to park my car that would be even better.

I’ve not been able to use an actual amp of any kind in my box since 2000, but in all honesty, I no longer miss it. That “amp in a room” vibe is nice but can’t really be captured on recordings anyway. Modern modelers and capture technology is so great. Not the same, but equally good.Gavincoolguy wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 1:32 am Some sort of box more than a foot away from other people's box so I can use a tube amp. I don’t know why I’m like this, but I never really G.A.S. for guitars. I bought my dream guitar in the early 80s or so, a G&L Skyhawk (Stratocaster). That cured my guitar lust for a long time, until I fell for a Steinberger GMT4, which I actually lost to another buyer before I had the money, but then he traded it for an Ibanez GEM at a different music store up the road, and I was able to buy it gently used for about half price. Since then… not really much has caught my attention. Now synthesizers… they seem to constantly be capturing my attention. I hope I can scare up the money for a 3rd Wave desktop this Christmas.

TONEX + Ox Stomp = match made in heaven.zerocrossing wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 1:49 am I’ve not been able to use an actual amp of any kind in my box since 2000, but in all honesty, I no longer miss it. I can't justify buying Hologram pedals but I wish I could:

I thought hard about buying a Hologram, but with Other Desert Cities, Portal and other effects, I can get to similar places, and more.Uncle E wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 3:14 amTONEX + Ox Stomp = match made in heaven.zerocrossing wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 1:49 am I’ve not been able to use an actual amp of any kind in my box since 2000, but in all honesty, I no longer miss it. If I could afford the time, I would be taking piano lessons.

I don't really GAS for guitars any more.
I don't really GAS for guitars any less….
I've got all the guitars I reckon I'm going to get. I'm very difficult to please at this point, and I don't have the money for a 4000€ guitar.
I could've had an HD-35 Martin, new, in 2009, for about 2000€. Twas a beast. Rattled my ribcage with a gentle strum.
To me, a great sounding/playing acoustic is a work of art that will always make me covet it, if I don't have it. Secret is to be content.

Can you devote one half hour a day of focused practice?Magic Russ wrote: Mon Nov 06, 2023 4:11 pm If I could afford the time, I would be taking piano lessons.
Piano lessons are usually a half hour then you practice for an hour to a half every day.
If you do it early and focus on only the lesson material a half hour a day you'll get better than trying to cram it all into a week. Piano like guitar always starts out with developing muscle memory. Focus on the material at hand. Developing good technique is by building on strengths. A simple piece played well even simple chord progressions or scales at a moderate tempo with always beat a haphazard sloppy incomplete peace. Focus on where you are in the moment of your playing save where you want to go with your playing after you've mastered the lesson.
YT has hundreds of online free courses. If you've never played before start here...

Mostly it's about the jazz box
Benedetto Bravo Deluxe
Gibson ES-275
Gibson L5 CES
Guild Aristocrat (yes it's a hollow body
Guild a 150
Fender Strat Plus Deluxe (1990's)
Gibson Peter Frampton
whoops. wrong link now corrected.
The biggest seller on the PF version is ALL Mahogany body rather than standard Mahogany back and neck with maple cap.
Why Gibson decided that Customs should have maple mahogany rather than the original and early 70's all mahogany on custom models is beyond me. The tone on all mahogany guitars is warmer and fuller rather than the scooped mids to highlight the highs on lows as found on standards is beyond me.

I lust over expensive boutique basses (e.g., Sivcak OSC III 5, high end Elrick and Sadowsky), but have never pulled the trigger on one. It's not so much that I can't afford them, it's more that it's money that would be better spent on less luxurious items or saved for future needs. I honestly don't play bass much anymore and spend most of my time and money on hardware synths that I do use almost every day. I also have a couple of nice basses (G&L and Lakland), so I usually just pull them out whenever my bouts of GAS for a boutique bass pop up and that usually extinguishes it (temporarily).
