I know it's already being discussed but I thought it deserves its own thread.
So the long awaited SID emulation from Plogue has finally arrived:

Seems like there's no demo yet so I'm curious to hear from folks who've had a chance to play around with it.

I've been using it since yesterday. Lots of fun. I was trying to find my sidchip that i had in my first c64 (the brown one). I believe one of the R3's came closest. The step sequencers are genius. Total flexibility. And there's lots of them. I guess one could mimic about every soundroutine out there. My plan is to deepdive into the c64 emu later today.

Nice for the nostalgia and it sounds very authentic. But I wouldn't pay 60e for it as I just wouldn't use it much.

Plogue has done a lot to support the new, improved plugin format called CLAP.
Does that include this new synth already?
Bitwig 5.1's voice stacking functions make CLAP versions highly desirable.

Bought!
David, would it perhaps be possible to mitigate the popping sound that occurs when changing the chip types on the right side? Moving to or from R1 creates a max volume pop that is pretty brutal...

Yeah we implemented quite a few pop removals here and there. And we thought we fixed that one too. The R1 has a HUUUUGE DC offset (which we of course emulate - it plays all digi songs weirdly, like Skate or DIE with nearly just guitar samples playing). Let me see if we screwed something up.Liero wrote: Thu Dec 07, 2023 5:51 pm Bought!

60 EUR is pretty low for what this synth is capable of and for the level of detail. Just purchased. Of course, it isn't for everyone but anyway, this is some noooiiiice development..

I hope this is really as good as I hoped for. Because I actually worked with SID chips in the past and they sound very detailed. Lofi, sure, but full of little details.kmonkey wrote: Thu Dec 07, 2023 6:16 pm 60 EUR is pretty low for what this synth is capable of and for the level of detail. Just purchased. But I wonder about the CPU usage. How is it compared to other synths ?

We had a C64 when I a kid and I spent an ungodly time with the manual, but never really groked the stuff about the SID chip sadly. I distinctly remember not really being able to tell the saw wave from the square wave and things about filters just threw me for a loop. What can I say, I was probably like nine or something.

Want to take the occasion to say a big THANK YOU to David, this brings back a lot of beautiful memories.
Speaking of which, when we talk about SID music, the names that come up more often are usually Rob Hubbard or Martin Galway or Jeroen Tel or Ben Daglish (R.I.P.); I'd like to pay tribute to a couple (mostly) unsung heroes of mine:
Richard Joseph: The Sacred Armour of Antiriad

Neil Brennan: The Way of the Exploding Fist
https://deepsid.chordian.net/?file=/MUS ... &subtune=3
Nostalgic regards,
