After days of search how to get rid of Plugin Alliance (you cannot phone a tech support of course)
I tried email!!! 3 days to respond!
To supply an uninstaller would be to bloody easy!
How do I uninstall my PA plugins?
In order to uninstall our plugins, you will need to delete the plugin files from the root folders.
I'll need you to go to the Finder and click on Go > Go to Folder, and then enter this file path exactly as written below:
/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins
/Library/Application Support/Digidesign/Plug-Ins
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST
Then, in each folder, find the plugin that you want to uninstall, and move it to the Trash.
(Note that if you are using a custom VST folder, you will need to also trash the plugin files from that location as well.)

Uninstallers are unfortunately very uncommon on Mac OS. It's really annoying. This is one area where Windows is far superior (though to be fair, the uninstall process in Windows very rarely gets rid of everything properly).

Because macOS is UNIX/FreeBSD based, it doesn't have anything like the Windows Registry (which automatically makes macOS far superior to Windows.)bmanic wrote: Thu Jan 11, 2024 8:37 pm Uninstallers are unfortunately very uncommon on Mac OS. So really, just deleting the program file manually is all you need to do, though some programs have additional files in Application Support such as presets or preferences that you may need to track down.
It's not macOS's fault, though, that some developers don't provide uninstallers. They certainly could. Just like they could include plugin format selection in the installers, as you always find in Windows installers. Again, it's not actually macOS's fault that many devs don't.
Either way, Wide Blue Sound Audio Plugin Uninstaller solves both (lazy developer) problems for you.

Yeah, true that. Indeed it's really annoying that some installers don't include the plugin format selection. Ironically it's almost always the big famous companies who have shitty installers while the smaller indie developers have awesome installers (and some provide uninstallers too!).

I did find it really weird that their installer is so handy and easy to use, but then there's no option in there to uninstall things. From what I can tell in Windows, you have the VST 2 or 3 file, the manual in Program Files/Plugin Alliance, and sometimes presets in Documents. There may be more stuff sticking around that I'm just not aware of, though.

that's not the reason. the os records installation using package receipts that are stored as human-readable files in the /etc/var folder tree. third-party Mac uninstallers use those to do what they do. and you can easily look at them using tools like pacifist to see what went where (though one exception here is IK because it uses a funny format where it builds .pak files on the fly so you can't easily unpick what got put where). but in most cases as long as the installer is based on packagemaker, you can easily find out what got installed.jamcat wrote: Thu Jan 11, 2024 10:19 pmBecause macOS is UNIX/FreeBSD based, it doesn't have anything like the Windows Registry (which automatically makes macOS far superior to Windows.)bmanic wrote: Thu Jan 11, 2024 8:37 pm Uninstallers are unfortunately very uncommon on Mac OS. A Windows uninstaller doesn't have anything to do with the register
You need some utility to clean up the register.

An installer is able to add things to the registry. Why wouldn't an uninstaller be able to remove things from the registry?Gam456 wrote: Fri Jan 12, 2024 1:30 pmjamcat wrote: Thu Jan 11, 2024 10:19 pmBecause macOS is UNIX/FreeBSD based, it doesn't have anything like the Windows Registry (which automatically makes macOS far superior to Windows.)bmanic wrote: Thu Jan 11, 2024 8:37 pm Uninstallers are unfortunately very uncommon on Mac OS. That really only deletes the plugin. They put the manual somewhere and on Windows there are also several registry entries (for preferences like ui size, etc.) that will clearly take longer than some seconds to clean up. There may be even more stuff in locations I didn't think of. That's why there should be an uninstaller, because only the devs know which stuff they put in which locations.robindrieghe wrote: Thu Jan 11, 2024 8:29 pm how hard is it to delete one file? in windows its like some seconds to do it.

With macOS i use a file search app and find all files with the name of the plugin i want to delete and delete them, if I want to delete everything. It can be risky because its a manual process and easy to delete needed files. But, so far it works.

Why are you still doing it that way when Wide Blue Sound has a fail-safe one-click free app specifically designed for that task?plexuss wrote: Sat Jan 27, 2024 4:43 pm With macOS i use a file search app and find all files with the name of the plugin i want to delete and delete them, if I want to delete everything.
