Never really dabbled in Pultec EQ’s but want to take advantage of the current UA pultec EQ deal

Seems like they are aimed at the pop and rock market but eager to know if they can work equally as good with electronic / techno / etc

Cheers !
live 11 / Arturia collection / many Softube plug ins / thats it

You could try the demo.

When the pultec eq was developed, Electronic meant you didn't have to wind it up.

Just demo it, maybe following article is interesting
https://abbeyroadinstitute.nl/blog/demy ... he-pultec/

Imo in plugin world you don't get that described magic by just adding a pultec without boosting or attenuating anything

There are some free alternatives to give e a try. I'd check the Devs for newer releases if desired.
Warmy EP1A
Warmy EP1A V2
PTEq-1a I prefer this one.
PTEq-X
Rare
RareSE
Titanium 3 Basstard
Coffee The Pun
Pureteq Free
Electron EQ
SonEQ

its just a slightly different curve than a standard bell/shelf of a digital EQ. Some emulations are clean, some add distortion like a hardware unit.
Its not neccessary but since
one came with ozone (which is one without the distortion) i use it sometimes to boost the lowend and maybe dip the lowmids on my lowend bus for my techno tracks.

It's great on synth bass. Set the low frequency to 60 or 100, turn boost and atten all the way up, and then back off the boost until it's right. A really easy way to bring out the bass without stepping on the kick frequencies.

Yes, get it. From one techno producer to another. I actually just recently bought a hardware tube EQ because how well the valve sound worked in software for my techno/trance/house tracks.

But that’s the whole point of the pultec effect. You boost and attenuate at the same frequency
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Asking the question does open interesting discussions.
But frankly before asking, you should try, and see if you like it or not.

In music production it's not so much about cliched copying. It's more about figuring out the tools you like for the sound you like, and that can mean lots of fusion if need be, for example you can totally use guitar amps on some synths even for EDM (I'd probably load it on a bus send as amp sims don't have wet dry mix)

But again, try things, be creative, be different even. So much boring samey samey music on the charts, well it does make fun content for good old Rick Beato ! :D

? Pultec is said to have some magic without doing anything, no boosting, no attenuation - just by sending a signal through it! Some engineers used it for that purpose only.
What whole point?

Running audio through tubes definitely changes things even if the equalization settings are not adjusted.

A lot of engineers used to (and probably still do) run signals through any analogue gear, because it’s said it adds some ‘warmth’ to the sound because of the circuitry and tubes.

Not a real pulteq but I'm using IGS Rubber Bands 500 ME for those type of music.
The Boost / Atten style processing should work nice for any styles.

his is called saturation my friend. Just use a saturator and you get that „magic“ its very easy to recreate the uad pultec (tube) saturation with ozone exciter but dont forget the volume boost!
Ofc analogue circuitry is a different story but thats not pultec dependend.
