SP140 Plate Reverb

Post

Hi, this week we released our new plugin, SP140, which is exciting for us, it being our first plugin and our first effect. (We have developed only Kontakt Instruments until now).

You probably know what this is, and you probably already have at least one in your plugins folder. So what's different about ours?
  • There are five plate models to choose from
  • It has a unique Density control that makes the reverb signal more transparent – another way to take the edge off reverb without just leveling or EQing
  • Send Width and Output Width controls plus Reverb Pan, give you more stereo flexibility. Plus it's compatible when mono-ized
  • Reverb times go up to 6 seconds and down to 20ms, much shorter than the original
  • Drive control with filtering and pre/post switch
  • It's only $39 during the intro sale! (until 15th April)
I hope that's enough to get you to consider adding the SP140 to your collection, but thank you for your time either way. You can get it from here: https://www.iconic.nyc/sp140.

Is this convolution, algorithmic, or hybrid?
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

It's convolution, but it's not your run-of-the-mill impulses - we partnered with Numerical Sound to synthesize ultra-clear waveforms with textures modeled from famous examples. Plus, there's a never-before-seen Density control that gives you the same character of each plate, but less overwhelming. Percussive elements, in particular, benefit from using the lower density settings. There are a bunch of other features that set the SP140 apart, as well (built in filter, pre-delay, send width, return width and pan, pre- and post-drive effect, etc.). We're posting a conversation with Numerical Sound that highlights what went into the build. Look for it next to the tutorial video on the product page - https://www.iconic.nyc/sp140. Thanks for checking out the SP140!!

I have a decent number of reverb vsts but no plate reverb. But man I love the sound of this. The density control really gives it a good range of effect. I have to ask though, does SP140 ever check online? I saw in the tutorial that it's just a serial number, but I'm offline so, just to be sure. Thanks -

Sounds very nice. I have a lot of plate reverbs. Is there a demo version?

How about native Linux support? 🙂

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Hi there! Unfortunately, we don't have the SP140 available for Linux at the moment, but I will talk to the scripting team and see if that's something that is possible. We appreciate your interest in the SP140!!

Hi Aloysius, thanks so much for your positive comment and your interest in the SP140!! We have gotten lots of interest in a demo period, so I've been talking with the scripting team about implementing a demo period. I'm not sure how quickly we could turn that around, but we are looking at it. In the meantime, I will offer you a money back guarantee. If you're not happy with it, within say 7 days I'll make sure you get a complete refund... that's how confident I am that you will love the SP140. Hopefully that works for you. Thanks again for your interest in the SP140!!!

Hi Jonathan, thanks so much for your positive comment about the SP140, and really glad you're digging it!! I believe that it only pings the server once as you're authorizing it. I'm pretty sure it doesn't periodically check, like a subscription or anything, but I will check with the team to confirm and post a more definitive response. But it does definitely confirm the serial number during authorization. Thanks again for your interest in the SP140!!!

That is very generous. Thank you. I'll revisit the page. :)

I purchased. I really love the sound.

In Ableton Live I can drag tracks from one Live Set to another. When I drag a track with SP140 inserted from one Set to another Set, SP140 does not seem to remember its settings. Settings do not seem to be remembered on saving a Set.

I don't see any way of saving a preset in Windows 10.

The on/off etc switches are very small on my screen. The GUI is automatically at full size.

The mouse wheel idea for the width parameters is a bit weird but not a deal breaker.

Hi Aloysius, glad you dig the sound!! I will look into if we can make it so that the settings stay with the track. Does that occur when you drag other plugins in Ableton? I'll check with the scripting team and see if we can adjust this. There are no user preset banks, but that was a suggestion that someone else made, so we're definitely looking at implementing User Presets in an update. Regarding the sizing, we did have it so that it should default to 80% of maximum, but in certain DAWs it seems to present at 100% by default. It is also something that we're looking at. And the on-off switches, do you mean the silver toggles for the filters and drive? Maybe we can resize those in an update, especially if people tend to size down the whole GUI. All great feedback for us to consider - much appreciated!!! We're taking note of everything we get back from users, and looking to incorporate improve as we go. We're working on the AAX version, so we're going to be swapping out the installer in the next few weeks anyway and we're going to see what changes should be made at the same time. Again, thanks for your feedback and thanks for your purchase of the SP140... and glad you're digging the sound!!!

Oh, and looking at the mouse wheel>Width control, too... thanks!!

Other plugins drag and drop with their saved settings.
User Presets are quite important imho.
''do you mean the silver toggles'' ... yes
I'm keeping this. Thanks for making it! :)

One more for the list ... can we lock the wet/dry mix so we can keep the balance as we flick through presets? A lot of reverbs are capable of this.

Send Width lock would be great too :)
