Does anyone have a recommended piano course that they used and really helped them get better?

I know practice, practice, practice is the best method, but are there any courses out there that helps you practice, or anything that actually gave you good results after 6months - a year or so?

I am fully self-taught, so I defined my own "curriculum" based on my own interests. Some of my "syllabus" included (real-time) music transcription and through-composed improvisations.

I'm trying to learn some piano skill with Melodics. It's quite a good solution for me because I like doing things by myself, at my rythm. Other people may prefer a real teacher. What I like in Melodics is that there are exercices for different levels and you can you adapt the tempo, or activate the the "wait" mode (great for learning a song). The program also tells you if you don't play in the good tempo. The benefit I've seen on 5 months is that my fingers gained some agility, and I play more naturally. I also try some chords that I did'nt even think about before.

It really is important to know what your goal is - if your goal is to write songs with the piano then a theory focused course would be better. If its to play classical music - nothing beats a real teacher or just learning by practicing and well technique exercises are a must then as well

Jordan Rudess has a 30 day course on technique.
- one time cost $127, so no subscription stuff
- it's yours forever and do 20 lessons any pace you like
- the app can download all lessons on the unit and very quick to get going each time

Very well designed in my view to increase technical skills at playing and being fluent
- finger independence, hand independence, being creative and add
- and fun to do the way he performs in lessons, hands on from start
- he is not focused on learning specific songs if that is your main aim

Honestly I'd look into private lessons in your area, the online stuff doesn't give any feedback on your playing or technique. I took lessons for piano and tried online stuff to improve my voice. My piano playing is decent but my voice still sucks.

Or try whatever, that's just my personal experience.

Seems good to, well designed with app and all features and progress and stuff.

I have a couple free vids from them on computer that I found good exercises.

There are those that try have video dialog also

I never tried him and it's condenced to 3 months you must have the time.

Private lessons cost a lot, like 2 hours will be a full course online for a year just about.
- and changing teacher after teacher to find one that really work for you cost too
- and if not living in a bigger city can be a bit to travel too

I've tried a couple of times, and aborted real quick. They were very set in their ways and did not intend to learn something new, that happend to be what I wanted to learn the most.

Want to do classical is probably best chance to get your moneys worth. The pieces to learn as a ladder of difficulty is very similar between teachers, I think.
- once passed Czerny etydes and Für Elise it's Chopin, Liszt and the rest
- always one step on the ladder to start off with for anybody
- and if this is music of choice

In 3rd and 4th grade I had lessons at school, but it really killed any joy. Musically meaningless stuff. But this was in the 60's, so maybe happend things since then, internet for one.... :)

I'm self-taught pianist, from what I see, I wouldn't recommend that much Online classes, it feels it lacks of music culture imo. Just enroll in a music school/conservatory and practice at home in your free time as if it was a work

I wish I had a teacher to help me, or it really makes me upset when I learn with myself, I feel my hands don't belong to me. (cryin'

Courses by David Sprunger helped me a lot.

If you are after classical music, Piano Career Academy is great.

I have a remote teacher who is (slowly!) having me work through some classic lesson books. I found this guy's walkthroughs have been realy helpful to supplement my live lessons. I thought he was going to be very grumpy at first but he is actually pretty funny
