Will this cable work for my needs?

Not sure if this is the right forum, but...

I want to share the single input of a mini speaker with two input sources (console and 'puter). Wondering if cables used to split audio in the opposite direction (one source, to 2 headphones) will work the other way 'round. This cable, for example:

I'm usually a bit careless when it comes to electronics, but this is really not advisable. I've seen a friend actually doing it with a TV speaker and claiming "naah it just works" but I have not heard of him since.

Get a dinky mixer or a passive multi-input monitoring control. Or that broken 'vintage' hifi amp that is broken: use the selectable multiple inputs and Tape Rec line output.

Thanks! I suppose I could get a little mixer box, but with that and the splitter I'm adding another couple of power adaptors to an overburdened plug block. Also adds more expense.

If the cable really won't work for this I might just consider plugging and unplugging the cables at the speaker, when I need.
