Hoping someone can help with Cubase 13 Pro and audio cycle recording/takes

Hey all! So I've been getting back into Cubase after a long time away (used it since the 90s, jumped off around version 8, back on 13 Pro now). One thing that's kinda doing my head in a bit is how when I cycle record audio to create take lanes, the audio clips kinda sit stacked on top of each other. Meaning if I wanna move the clip around, clicking and dragging only takes the take on the top and leave all the others behind. They always have that diagonal line patter on them to indicate overlapping clips. I swear this never used to be the case, and it certainly isn't in any of the other DAWs I have. Any ideas how I can change this, so all my takes are just in one audio clip/part/event/whatever so I can just move it around with all the takes bundled into it? Thank you!

Yes, that's really a bit weird - if you want to move/resize all of them at once you have to either just lasso them in or group them.
(There's no way to generally avoid the stacking)

I'm not going crazy though right - it wasn't always this way was it? I swear it wasn't!jens wrote: Mon Jun 17, 2024 10:46 am Yes, that's a bit strange - if you want to move/resize all of them at once you have to either just lasso them in or group them.

I don't seem to remember it from way back when I used SX V1 anf for me it was quite the WTF??? moment too when encountering the stacking.

**Deleted because Chat GPT is stupid and hallucinated a solution that doesn't exist lol

Yes, I looked for it and couldn't find that option, then I did some digging around on the web and that didn't help either...
I think Chat GPT itself is now submitting FR - and it's a rather reasonable one.

I'm interested in this answer too, because I've been trying to get into Cubase (I own a copy of 13 Pro) because I love mixing in it. But I've not actually recorded a full blown project in it yet.
I'm used to Reaper and Studio One, where a clip represents a collection of takes, and you can easily select which take to use by right-clicking and choose the take in the menu.
Cubase seems to stack the takes, and whatever is on top is the one that plays. It doesn't seem to create a folder for the takes, so as soon as you move an item, you end up leaving stuff behind.
There are Audio Record modes:

None of these give the desired behaviour.Audio Record Mode
These options allow you to select what happens when you record over existing events.
Keep History
Keeps existing events or portions of events.
Cycle History + Replace
Replaces existing events or portions of events with the new recording. In cycle mode, all takes from the current cycle recording are kept.
Replace
Replaces existing events or portions of events with the last take.

I have already answered this in the first reply of this thread.
Nope, it's actually the other way around: whichever plays is on top.Cubase seems to stack the takes, and whatever is on top is the one that plays.

They have a new tool to edit cycle recording, I believe in C8 you dragged and move around files with the arrow tool, now it is a specific one. Watch some YT vids about it.

But that's not at all what this thread is about.DonSantiago wrote: Thu Jun 20, 2024 7:13 am They have a new tool to edit cycle recording, I believe in C8 you dragged and move around files with the arrow tool, now it is a specific one. Watch some YT vids about it.
