I haven't seen PWM being sold in any NZ stores, so I'll probably have to get one shipped from Andertons or somesuch (possibly they might even sell in Aus, which might make more sense). I have a wad burning a hole in my pocket from some backpay a wee while ago - just bought a UBXa, going to get an MS5, but I think I have to get one of these babies whatever the cost. It's an OSCar tripping off it's head. GForce, sorry but yours whispers in comparison to this real thing. Even if Behringer delivered on an OSCar, I'd have to get a PWM instead. Hate to think what price they go for. Oh my god, I'm so moist hearing that filter squelch.

I'd seen PWM but never really paid them much attention. I suspect talk of wavetables put me off. Came across some vids of Mantis (is it actually out yet?) and f**k me sideways, why have I ignored it? Instantly reminded me of my old OSCar but modern and on steroids. That fat driven dual filter, oh I so want one. No, I need one. Chris Hugget worked on it in his final year, so it all makes sense now. I kinda like the Peak/Summit but it always seemed capable but just a little bit tame to me. Whereas this bastard screams out loud.

That equates to around $2300 here. Better than I thought. Anywhere from $2-300 for shipping = $2.5k.
Ooooh
60th birthday coming up this year and couldn't think what to treat myself with...there's my present to myself.
I could suggest it to Mrs Krit but I suspect she'd tell me to go copulate with myself instead....

After a bit of research, apparently PWM were "proud to announce distribution in Australia & NZ". Which is 5 dealers in Aus, all of whom firmly "do not ship internationally at present". Looks like my best bet is from Anderton's in UK. They will ship to NZ for 58 squids = $120 or so. Sounds OK to me, cos no way this is ever going to be stocked in NZ. I had a quick look in US - I stopped at Sweetwater. They ship cheapest at US$220 up to $300 = $350 to $500 !
Why is shipping so extortionate in the US? I haven't checked out Thoman yet.
Not entirely happy buying something like a synth from so far away, but I really have to have one. OSCar was my favourite synth I ever had. This is the closest I'll ever get to having another one...but even better. My pocket is about to get emptier.
...AND, I've never had a green synth before.

Considering impOSCar is an emu of OSCar, then yes. ImpOSCar is very good but it still a way off the raw power of a real OSCar. I was thrilled when impOSCar first came out and it gets probably 85% of the way there, but there are sounds it can't emulate quite as well. Mantis seems to have same dual separatable filters of OSCar, very similar drive character and all of the fat character of an OSCar plus more. Its sound character has Chris Hugget all over it - if you have ever been lucky enough to get your hands on a genuine OSCar, you know how distinctive it is. Almost made for aggressive techno before techno even existed. I used to use real 303s, 202s, 909s, Jupiters/Junos etc back in the 90s and when I first got access to an OSCar it just blew all of those clean out of the water.
From what I can see/hear...Hugget decided to remake a modern OSCar and PWM completed it after he died. Peak & Summit had similar filter architecture but not the sheer power and drive of OSCars. Malevolent looks interesting and has maybe more raucousness but Mantis sounds to me like pure OSCar.
