I'm trying to locate an OSX app that will extract a midifile from an old sequencer file when the original creator app is no longer present. Github would seem like the perfect place to find it but I've opened a boatload of repositories using keywords to no avail. Is anything like this out there?

IOW, I no longer have the apps that created the sequences (MastertracksPro, pre DP Performer) so can't open them to export, so am looking for an app that can bury into them and pull out the midifile.

Thanks :)

I think the only program that can convert .mtp files to midi is... MasterTracksPro itself, I'd guess via the File - Export menu ;-)

It seems that Don (the original author) has bought back the rights from GVox / PassportMusic, and is working on a new version. But don't hold your breath. It seems you can download a 'free' version of MTP 6.8.4 vapourware for MacOs somewhere on the internet.

Unfortunately, MTP had such a small user base that no one has gone into a file and figured out simply how to extract the data and create a midifile of it. ConvertWithMoss is able to do this with many sampler formats, take one that you don't have the sampler for and convert it to one you do, or a plain sfz instrument. It shouldn't be impossible to open up an old sequencer file, the way CWM opens an old sampler format instrument, parse out note info the way CWN does note assignment, and export a midifile. But even AATranslator, which is far more that I need and PC only besides, translates nearly everything one would need to import from one DAW into another, doesn't do midi :) So obviously there's something about midi that makes it too much of a pain to deal with without help from the original app. Especially if no one on GitHub has made a utility to do it. :(

I've managed to do much of my old Performer files by Time Machining my latest version of Performer and running it on an old Mac, but a version of MTP that will open the files is lost to the ether. Even on Wayback Machine. Hence my looking for a utility. Oh well :((((
