From the product page:
Audio limiting is the art of managing and controlling sound energy. Often the goal is to increase loudness by changing level dynamics in the most transparent way possible. Historically, this was done by using an electric circuit that follows the envelope of an audio signal and steers a variable gain to reduce peaks and boost low levels. These methods were later emulated in the digital domain and many variations and flavors have been created since.

LimitOne is different. Our goal was not to eliminate all other clippers or limiters out there, as they all add their own color, but to develop a novel approach and do things in a different way, allowing you to get results that weren’t previously possible.

We found inspiration in two-stage limiter methods and multi-band compressor designs, in how clipping adds color and punch, and we also took note of the problems and artifacts that some processing introduces. Then we imagined what an easy-to-use tool would look like if we would not limit ourselves to existing methods. This led to the idea of a hybrid algorithm that combines the advantages of digital signal processing in the frequency domain and time domain.
I tried the plugin and i agree with their statements, LimitOne sounds different.

That's the product page: https://www.leapwingaudio.com/product/limitone/
Intro Price: €149
Regular Price: €249

A demo is available in their website, but to give an overall idea i also made a simple (but hopefully helpful) video

Looks and sounds good at first glance, but the price is way over the top.
Its over for Bitwig--CUBASE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is definetly not cheap, but it's also pretty different from other limiters in sound and quite unique.
It's the kind of plugin one should try with their own music.

Sounds great, easy to use and set up, a lot more going on under the hood than the interface suggests. Price is equivalent to other mastering limiters.Worth a demo.

Sounds good, I think there are alternatives though, like boost from ursadsp...
I think their graphic design work could be a lot better as well.

I tried it on single kick drums samples and indeed it sounds different from most limiters : all I got was a distorted sound everytime. I found no way to solve the problem by tweaking the parameters. Did I miss something or is it actually bad for this task ?

Transparency doesn't seem to be the goal with this, or even an option possibly. heh

Leave Ceiling at 0 and be sure to enter your kick with at lower level (i mean under 0).
Then it's all about the gain and clipping, just play with these 2 aiming for no more than a couple of 2 of GR, also try to shift tilt to higher freqs if this may help.

I tried with kicks myself and it works pretty well too, you just need to be aware that if ceiling is under the treshold, it sounds bad. Gain staging is important here.

You can compensate the volume with the In and Out sliders

Thanks. Of course my kick drum was playing under 0 and the ceiling was -0.1 to keep a little, little margin. As soon as I started to add a little volume, it distorted everything way quicklier than any limiter I know.

If all I can hope is a gain of 2dB before it starts distorting everything, it’s not for me, especially not for $149. I was hoping more from this "different approach", my classic non-revolutionar limiters go way beyond this easily with clean and faithfull results. Thank you. :tu:

I assumed this plugin was more targeted at program material rather than individual instruments, especially high-transient instruments like drums. Limiting drums almost mandates having dedicated attack and release controls, which this does not have.

I don't want a 'sound' from limiters.

Not really transparent from my few tests. Limitless is still unrivaled here when mastering, occasionally using Elephant 5 when seeking that specific soundprint (which I like btw). On individual tracks / busses, TrackLimit, PristinePeaks and Boost remain my favorites. Not to mention clippers eh
Still curious to hear how unique LimitOne will turn out to be, genuinely curious.
