LMMS on Linux: How do I get VST instruments working?

I followed the instructions to get VST support on LMMS and only the effects are working, no VST instruments.
Please let me know if you use Linux how to get the VST instruments working on LMMS.

I really like the LMMS workflow for the mostpart and I could get a lot of good work done if I could just run my VSTi's in there. The MIDI recording in LMMS seems to work better with my USB MIDI controller than REAPER. But nonetheless, I've been exporting stems into REAPER to get other work done. So it's so so.

Please let me know if you know any special techniques to get VST instruments working on LMMS for any OS, especially Linux.
