I saw a couple of posts on Instagram about a music production event using Neutron 5. I can't find anything else about it, but this is the link to the event. Curious to know what new features will be included.

More pretend AI
Duh

I wonder if they're ever going to get a grip on Neutron's resource consumption. That's why I stopped using it and most other iZotope plugins several years ago. Every so often I'll break one out and... yep, still resource hogs!!

In fact, Neutron, Nectar, VocalSynth, and Ozone are pretty much the only plugins that consistently put a visible drag on my maxed out M1.

Neutron 3 works pretty well for me on Windows 10, but I demoed 4 when I thought about upgrading, and it used way more CPU. It was also a lot buggier, and the AI seemed worse every time I tried it. In fact, the AI in Ozone 11 was also significantly worse than in version 9 for me.

I like some of the new features (e.g. unmasking), but if the core functions are worse then I might as well stick with the older versions. Who knows, maybe 5 will change my mind, but I'm not optimistic.

It's like a Neutron bomb.

is there anyone here that actually uses any version of neutron? the concept is alright, i just always found it to be actually more cumbersome to use than just uh..mixing by "hand"

Well, it gives you a starting point. The fine tuning was always your job then. And you don't have to use the assistant at all. You can simply use the modules, and adjust by hand.

Unfortunately this starting point gots worse and worse with every version. I was highly disappointed with version 4 in this regards. It completely changed the sound of my drums for example, as if i would have another drumset then. And i fear version 5 will make it even worse. The trend seems to be towards a single music direction, hip hop, with the focus at loud, loud and loud.

This is actually an awesome upgrade, as it featured modules that i need a lot and wanted to have before. Having a multiband clipper is awesome, not many plugins can do that. The density module (upward compression) in multiband is also very useful and something i use a lot lately as i found upward compression to be really helpful in a lot of tasks in mixing and also mastering. The phase module looks nice, but might be too consuming to put it on my 14 drums tracks, but for acoustic guitars for example its great!
Forget about the AI stuff, its for kids that dont know what to do.

haha.. doesn't officially support latest mMacOS Sequoia (though is probably fine

edit: also, no loyalty offer in my account or upgrade path other than intro sale price. what are they smoking?

IKR, that is weird. But on Thomann and plugin boutique you can find upgrade (115 euro) and crosgrade (139 euro) options. As for my experience, I'd rather use SmartEQ for this task, but when I tried Neutron unmasking it didn't work that bad.

"the gui is much more sluggish than in Neutron 4 ... I hope they fix this" yikes.

Transient/sustain for each module seems appealing, if it's implemented well.

I see "Phase" has a "Learn" function---that's one case where I might actually find the AI useful, auto-aligning phase across tracks, or at least providing a starting point.

Still I wish they'd give more of a discount to people who already own Neutron 4, as opposed to just "any prior version of Neutron standard or advanced". Their upgrades are so expensive I might just wait a few versions before upgrading again (if ever).
