Mäag Audio EQ4 MS

Post

hello folks,

I just got offered the Mäag Audio EQ4 MS for 29$..
is it any good? I listened to the demos on the PA site and it sounds really nice, and I like the mide/side option (and I don't have any other Mäag stuff). I do have, however, plenty of EQ plugins, so I'm not sure this would stand out or add anything.
Any thoughts? :) :phones:

The difference between an ordinary EQ will be indefinitely minimal. So called "air" is just a high-shelf filter. You can try yourself by demoing it. Make sure your EQ uses oversampling. Now I don't remember whether MAAG has any latency.

This eq has really odd curves that interact in a weird way, so if that’s your thing than this is very unqique. What’s supposedly special with the air band is that it extends well beyond 20k which provides a different shelf shape than standard eq:s. It’s not that it’s reproducing those frequencies but it affects the shape of the curve below 20k. It’s explained in the manual or maybe in their web page.

I’d say that the original EQ4 is one of the few so called character eq:s I like.

Why? Does oversampling make anything sound better? No not at all. Oversampling is overrated.
