Sound does not stop

Hi,
I encounter the following problem: some instruments do not stop playing, even though the note is done. They'll just keep on producing that sound for an indefinite time, unless I turn the instrument of.
It happens for example with Mr Miles Organ (mu instrument) or a Deputy Mono Sine (VST plugin).
Is this a bug, or can it be helped?

You DAW may have an "all notes off" setting or button.

Print to audio, and mute your instrument. Fade the audio out where you want it to stop.Bluap wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 11:55 am Hi,

That's not enough information. We're not psychic, so are you wanting us to just guess what you're doing or what you're using, and offer some advice based on that guess?Bluap wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2024 11:55 am Hi,

You dont even say what host you're using (Im assuming mu Instrument means MuLab, but Mulab comes as a host or a plugin) or whether this happens when you're playing in realtime, or with a sequence.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

I'm using MuLab as my DAW (naturally). I create a track and assing an instrument to it. I write a sequence for the track. This sequence consists of a few events. What happens, is that one of these events will not stop after its set duration, but continues to produce a sound. This happens on different audio setups. It will only stop when I turn off the instrument. If I use gain-subautomation to reduce the sound to 0, it will still continue.

As you may know MIDI notes consist of a note on and a note off event, I know from another DAW that sometimes might (have) miss(ed) note off events which results in hanging notes.
Maybe that's the case here too?
Imo best would be to contact MuLab support providing a project where it can be reproduced.

Yeah, it has to be midi note off issue. Older DAWs could often do that when you stopped them while a synth was playing. I managed to lock up some synths in the past with looping on Cubase of old and some old synths were notoriously tetchy about note off. Somewhere, either on your channels, channel filters or in global settings there is likely an all notes off setting that's not ticked.

I also remember a few old school VST instruments that were supposed to work like that, as drones.
As long as the VST received a transport play signal, it would generate audio.
I still use one of those sometimes to generate some of my tonal rhythmic elements.
I agree that if that's what it is, then freeze to audio and just cope with the audio.
