Looks nice, might give it a spin. Intro price and xtra discount bring it into the affordable.

Well, based on the demos on their site, i vastly prefer the audio when its bypassed . doesn't sound much like tape, and more like some combo of soft sat and compression with added wobblediness

It's a cassette that's been through the washing machine.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

Holy crap, that sound bad! :-o

In all likelyhood however they just dramatically overdid it in the examples and it's possible to dial it in a lot more tastefully.
(To be fair it sounds like a monkey (or was it perhaps the devs three-years old?) played with the controls until they arbitrarily stopped it and then used whatever it came up with on some source they randomly pulled out of a hat.)

Agreed many of the sound demos are OTT on the effect front. Dial it back a bit!

Edit: after actually demoing I bought it. Sounds great, super easy to find usable sounds.

And there's literally no dry / wet mix knob to do it!

Even with all dials at 0, it still sounds overdone. I think Aberrant DSP's SketchCassette or Arturia's Mello-Fi are still better options than this one. More control over the sound and Tapewave doesn't seem to offer anything different, especially compared to SketchCassette.

Since when do tape-emulations have a dry-wet control? :nutter:

You dial it back using both the wow and the flutter depth and the age, drive, comp and drift control.

Dial everything back to 0 on this Wave Alchemy one and you still get the tape 'style' processing because there's no mix knob and you can't deactivate it.

SketchCassette has a dry / wet control for the tape 'style' section. As well as being able to bypass it completely.

The other one I use too, OCS-45 by Spectral, has a global dry / wet control for all of the settings. Including wow & flutter. Which, allows for more tasteful results and less like a monkey or a 3 year old. Which, I thought you were after?

Indeed it doesn't make any sense to have a dry/wet

I really like it. I think it has a lot of creative potential.

No, I tired it now and "Studio" can be really subtle - in fact "is this thing even on" kind of subtle.

With the six different modes/styles and the various controls this one has a huge range -
and it offers quite a variety of really useful colours indeed.

Why would I want my music to sound like it's recorded on cassette though? I genuinely don't get it...cassettes were mostly fkn awful. I used to have access to a studio Nakamichi back in the day and that sounded pretty good, but only because it sounded like it was recorded on something better than cassette and didn't actually sound like cassette :? .
